    transparent backgrounds or gif animations.
  • Usually scanned images should be scanned at 75
d.p.i. resolution. Actual image size Screen
    image size
  • Digital cameras should use lower resolution
    settings.

Publisher 2000 vs. Publisher XP
  • Open Publisher, follow instructions, make style
choices from design templates. There are some
differences however between the way Publisher
2000 and the way Publisher 2002 (XP) work.
  • If your using Publisher 2000
  • Web Wizard will help you create a number of pages
    before you start.
  • You can edit each page replacing, deleting or
    adding text and images.
  • If your using Publisher 2002 (or Publisher XP)
  • Only creates home page from start-up. You have
    to insert all new pages.
  • If you use one of the IS labs, the library
computers or the Student Multimedia Studio, then
you will be using Publisher XP.

Save as Web PageHow different Publisher Versions
save your Web Pages
  • using Publisher XP
  • using Publisher 2000
  • The homepage is saved in the folder you select
and a new folder is created to hold all images
    and added web pages.
  • Must name the homepage manually as index.htm.
  • All Web Pages AND Images go into one common
    folder.
  • Automatically names the homepage, index.htm

10
Viewing your Web Site
  • You can use Web Page Preview at any time during
the construction of your web site to see how it
will look in a web browser like IE or Netscape.
  • You can also open the index.html file (this is
your home page) directly from the folder where
you saved the page. It will automatically open
it in the default browser for the computer youre
    using.
  • For this class this is all you have to do. But
if you want, you can upload your web site to
    Kents Personal Server, continue on.

11
Uploading to Server
  • Can use WS_FTP LE or Secure Shell for Windows
    (SSH
  • Can download either of these programs free from
    http//helpdesk.kent.edu/software/winme/wmetelnet.
    shtm (I recommend WS_FTP LE)
  • Theres an tutorial on how to use WS_FTP LE at
    http//act.kent.edu tutorials link
  • MUST know user name and flashline password to
    log-in to server
  • If saved as a Publisher 2000 web page (site), you
MUST transfer all web pages and images from
common folder (where you saved the page) into
    public_html folder on the server
  • If saved as a Publisher XP web page (site),
  • You SHOULD have named the page when you saved it
as a publisher document as index.html. Then,
when you save as a web page, your home page
will be given the filename, index.html. A folder
    will be created automatically called,
index_files. You MUST transfer both the
index.html file and the index_files folder into
the public_html folder on the server.
  • If you make changes later
  • You MUST transfer all web pages and any new
images in the common folder (using Publisher
2000) or the index.html file and the index_html
folder (if using Publisher XP) to the server each
time you make a change to any of your web pages.
