Bicycle Statistics
  • There are 85 million bicycle riders in the U.S.
  • 773 bicyclists died on U.S. roads in 2006.
  • 1 in 8 cyclists with reported injuries had a
    brain injury.
  • Each year 300,000 kids go to the emergency
    department because of bike injuries.

Bike Skillathon
  • Create stations about bicycling which could
    include
  • Identifying parts of bike
  • Identifying road signs
  • Identifying hand signals
  • Identifying bicycle related tools
  • Problem solving
  • Pre-riding safety check

  • Participants will ride a bike on an obstacle
    course learning safe bike-riding principles.

Stop, Dont Use Your Head!
  • Use cantaloupes to demonstrate the purpose for
    wearing a helmet.
  • You will need 2 cantaloupes.
  • One ripe cantaloupe to drop on a hard surface so
    it cracks open
  • One cantaloupe to be put in a helmet and dropped.

Concentration Games
  • Road Signs Bicycle Safety Concentration
  • Directions
  • Concentration Game 1-Make two sets of the
    picture pages. Youth will play concentration by
    matching the pictures.
  • Concentration Game 2-Make a set of picture cards
    and a set of word cards. Youth will play
    concentration by matching the picture with the
    correct wording.
  • The concentration games have been created so
    they can be copied or printed on labels to make
    it easier to put together. They are formatted
    for Avery 5163 labels
