• 57 of students (ages 7-17) use a home computer
  to complete school assignments
• 53 of teachers use technology in their classroom
  instruction
• Virtually all schools are connected to the
  Internet
• 88 of schools maintain a website

• 20 young adults (18-25) use Internet for
  health-related information
• 40 students (7-17) hone skills using word
  processing/desktop publishing programs at home
• Students use the Internet to connect online with
  communities (clubs, groups, teams)
• 77 students (ages 7-17) in higher-income homes
  use a home computer
• 29 students in households earning less that
  15,000 annually use a home computer

Conclusions

• U.S. children are benefiting from
  technology-enabled opportunities
• When low-income children have access to
  technology, they use it in ways that enhance
  their opportunities (download study guides, seek
  medical care, more likely to post opinions on
  issues)

• I say to you today, even though we face the

  of its creed "We hold these truths to be
