This is just a suggested format
  • This presentation summarizes some of the advice
    in the prep session.
  • It also closely follows the information in the
Group presentation Grading note (on the web).
  • You are not bound by this format or advice. Feel
free to use any variation that helps you best get
    your ideas across.

3
1. Problem Definition
  • What decision(s) must be made?
  • Who is the decision maker?
  • Remember
  • Your role Consultants to top management of the
    firmthe audience is the firm!
  • Be direct and go to the heart of the case.

4
2. Background
  • What is the background to the problem in the
    case?
  • Should have information that will set-up the
    problem definition?
  • This means two aspects
  • How did we get to this? Where did the problem or
    the decision issues come from?
  • How has the company responded this far? What has
    worked and not-worked?
  • In general, ask always yourself what is the
precise background or market environment that
sets up the key decision issues in the case.
  • You need to wade through all the case facts and
    decide what is relevant.

5
3. Analysis
  • Analysis of all the possible strategy
alternatives that you considered as solution.
  • Present the pros and cons of each possible
    alternative

6
4. Recommendation
  • Clearly state your recommendation strategy What
should the firm should do at the strategic level
  • This is the What to do? aspect
  • (Examples Positioning, Enter a new market, New
    Product Development, Match competitor pricing,
    Differentiate your product)
  • Indicate any related tactical or process issues
  • This can be the How to do? aspect.
  • Example, What should the firm do now, in the next
6 months? Or What things need to be implemented?

7
5. Basis for recommendation
  • Support and explain why your recommendation is
    the best. This may include
  • Situation analysis
  • Competitor analysis
  • Customer analysis
  • Summary of your financial analysis if relevant
    belongs here.
  • Show payoff to the recommended strategy the best?

8
6. Assumptions uncertainties
  • What are the risks of your plan?
  • What did you have to assume to make it work?
  • What resources are you relying on having to
    accomplish this?
  • What competitor and customer behavior are you
    assuming?

9
Question Answer
  • Its a good idea to save some (detailed) slides
for back-up and to answer questions (e.g., how
did you estimate the cost of product launch?)
  • You are responsible for managing the QA

10
Tips on Slides
  • Avoid repetition like the plague.
  • Make sure that each slide builds the logic for
the next slide and the next slide.
  • Make all your slide work logically and together.
  • If the main idea from one slide is not well
connected to the next, the audience will likely
    feel disconnected too.
  • It may be a good practice to ask at the end of
each slide Can I summarize in a sentence what
the main point of the slide is?
  • If you cant then perhaps the slide is not very
    clear
  • Another good practice Can I put a distinct and
    meaningful title for each slide?
