The Inspector General Bulletin (Jan 09)
Non-Deployable
Medical Waivers
Deployed Health Service Support Infrastructure
(i.e. TMC, aid stations, etc.) provides only
limited medical care. All deploying personnel
(military, civilian, and PCS) must be medically
cleared prior to deployment. Personnel found to
be medically non-deployable and whose condition
changes, must still be cleared by the MOB site or
the appropriate approval authority. Personnel
found non-deployable at the MOB site will NOT
DEPLOY without a medical waiver signed by the
appropriate approval authority (ARCENT Surgeon,
or, in the case of behavioral health, CENTCOM
Surgeon). Unit Commanders must obtain a medical
waiver and are NOT authorized to over-ride the
local medical deployability determination.
With the exception of mental health waivers,
medical waiver approval authority is delegated to
the service component surgeon for all deploying
personnel . Army Components (RA, NG, RES, and
civilians) will first consult with USARCENT
Surgeon to obtain medical waivers if personnel
are deemed medically non-deployable IAW MOD 9 to

Mental Health Waivers must be approved by CENTCOM
Surgeon.
