Background

• Idaho is a largely rural and frontier state
• Among the lowest physician patient ratios in
  the country
• Idaho State University and its College of Health
  Professions carries the mission of training
  health care professionals for the State of Idaho

History of the Program

• Established in 1992
• There have been 40 graduates
• 25 are practicing in rural settings
• Community-based, university-affiliated residency.

Mission

• The mission of the Idaho State University Family
  Practice Residency Program is to provide a
  collegial learning environment in which residents
  become mature, competent, compassionate family
  physicians.
• The Residency will provide comprehensive training
  in a broad range of practice settings with an
  emphasis on the care of under-served populations
  in Idaho and the Intermountain West.
• The Residency is committed to clinical
  excellence, academic productivity, fiscal
  responsibility, and service to our supporting
  institutions and the community.
