Without a functioning engine, the car is not
going anywhere. Each make and model of automobile
uses a specific engine. Depending on the car and
type of engine, it is sometimes possible to
install an engine from a different vehicle in a
given car. Engines are composed of a large number
of parts, most of which can be had at good prices
from a car salvage shop. You can also sometimes
find entire engines at car salvage sales. Most
automobile engines are fueled by gasoline, diesel

These come in automatic or manual varieties. In
either case, the gears work together to control
the vehicles torque and speed. The gear box may
also be referred to as a transmission, because it
is involved in transmitting power from the engine
to the wheels. Gear boxes and gear box parts are
usually readily available from car breakers.

The drive axle transfers the engines power from
the transmission to the wheels. If the drive axle
is non-operational, an automobile cannot be
driven. You can often order essential car parts

Brakes provide a cars stopping power. They are
used both to stop and to slow down. Vehicles with
an automatic transmission rely a bit more on the
brakes for slowing than cars with a manual gear
box, because the driver can downshift to slow
the vehicle if it has a manual transmission. In
either case, brake pads are a fairly common car
part to need.

The chassis is the cars foundation, the
framework for mounting everything else, including
the body, wheels, engine, transmission and
steering assembly brakes. This is one of the more
irreplaceable car parts, since it undergirds all
other parts of the vehicle.

Oil is used to lubricate and cool the engine. As
it circulates throughout the engine, the oil
picks up contaminants that could eventually
damage the engine and internal systems. Filters
are used to prevent this, but the filters
themselves become clogged after a while. This is
why oil filter replacement is a regular part of
car maintenance.

The driver uses this to control the cars
direction. Of course, every car comes with a
steering wheel, but these are also highly
customizable. Should your steering wheel become
worn or damaged, it is fairly easy to find a
