What causes vein disease?

• Veins are vessels that transport blood to the
  heart. In healthy leg veins, one-way valves allow
  blood to move only in one direction upstream
  towards the heart.

What are varicose veins?

• Varicose veins often appear as enlarged veins
  that twist and bulge in a rope-like pattern. They
  can be blue, red, or flesh-colored. They are
  often found on the back of the calves, inner and
  front thighs, or anywhere in the leg above and
  below the knee. In addition, they can be found
  deeper under the surface of your skin.

What are reticular and spider veins?

• Reticular and Spider veins are smaller
  superficial veins (usually less 1 millimeter in
  diameter), much smaller than varicose veins, but
  still visible. They are the mildest form of
  venous insufficiency and rarely cause physical
  symptoms.

• These thread-like veins often resemble red, blue,
  or purple spider webs closer to the skins
  surface. They can cover a small or large area of
  the legs. Although spider veins normally dont
  cause discomfort, the deeper veins that are
  associated with them do.
