Apple has always been involved in conflict. From
back in the days when the Macintosh computers
were competing with the IBM clones which
ultimately became dominated by Windows, right up
to today with the battles between android and the
iPad and iPhone.
3
In both cases however, Apple is up against an
open-source system where One Company Apple has
been up against a multitude of open-source
competitors. The main difference being that
back in days of the battle between PCs and Macs,
Apple only a small cult following. Today Apple is
King, and as with any kingdom there is always
someone trying to overthrow the monarchy.
4
Both Google and Apple are superpowers And with
the Introduction of Android, Google has decided
to make a play for the crown.   When android
smartphones first went into competition with the
iPhone, Apple at first did not even really feel
threatened. However, as of a few weeks ago
android had captured 69 of the smartphone
market. Apple has been forced to take notice, as
evidenced in its lawsuit against Samsung.
5
With the introduction of the Android 3.0
Honeycomb operating system, android tablets began
to have a fighting chance against the Almighty
iPad. With the rapid fire upgrades to 3.1 and
3.2, Apple was forced to fight back with upgrades
of its own. With the iPad two and what is often
referred to as the iPad three, Apple successfully
stayed one step ahead of the Androids.
6
Currently however, with the release of the Asus
Nexus 7, the iPad and Android seem to have
achieved some parity. Unlike the smartphone
market however, the iPad is definitely still
ruling in the tablet kingdom.   One factor that
has been noted in the selection of a tablet,
however, has been familiarity. People who used
androids were more apt to select an android
tablet while people who used iPhones were more
likely to select an iPad.
7
Apple's victory over Samsung was a devastating
blow to the Androids momentum. It may be enough
to ensure Apple's continued reign, but there is
something sad about this.
8
For the short period that it lasted, there was a
lot of great technology being produced. The
"Apple three" is a phenomenal tablet. Who knows
if Apple would've even bothered to development if
it wasn't for the competition from the Android
tablets. Though no competition for larger
tablets, the Android 3.0 Tablet is a phenomenal
piece of technology that never would've been
developed if android wasn't totally fixed on out
doing Apple.
9
Competition is a good thing, of course patent
infringement is not. However, if android springs
back by producing some great products that don't
infringe on Apple's patents, then both companies
will be forced to be on their toes and it is the
consumer who will win.
