Title: How to lay self adhesive vinyl floor tiles
1How to lay self adhesive vinyl floor tiles If
you need a quick and cheap flooring solution,
vinyl tiles may be a good option for you. While
they wont look as nice as proper porcelain floor
tiles, you can get some vinyl tiles these days
that do look fine and will adequately do the job.
Laying tiles can be easier than laying sheets of
vinyl flooring as if you should make a mistake
you are just wasting one tile rather than a whole
sheet of vinyl. First work out how many tiles
you need. You will find calculators online where
you can simply input the dimensions of your room
and it will work it out for you. Dont forget to
take into account any alcoves. Add a few extra
tiles on in case you make a mistake too. When you
buy your tiles be sure to check that they all
have the same batch number as the colour of the
tiles can differ slightly between batches. If you
have no choice but to use tiles from different
batches then try to mix them up so it looks like
an intentional effect. When youve bought the
tiles, leave them in the room in which they are
going to be fitted for 24 hours. This allows them
to acclimatise and will minimise the chance of
them warping after you have laid them.

- Vinyl tiles tend to be pretty thin and not very
forgiving of the surface underneath, so you will
need to prepare it well. Make sure there are no
nails sticking out of the flooring as these can
easily rip vinyl. Its not the strongest of
materials. If you do need a tough floor then
youre much better off choosing porcelain floor
tiles. If your floor is uneven and bumpy it might
be a good idea to put down a plywood layer first
to lay your tiles on top of. -
- Measure your floor across the whole width in both
directions and draw a line on the floor. Where
the two lines cross will be your midpoint and
this is the place to start tiling. It can be
tempting to simply start laying tiles along one
wall, but youll have a better overall effect if
you start from the middle. Lay out a line of
tiles across the room. When youre happy its a
simple task to remove the backing sheet and stick
down you tiles. Vinyl tiles are easy to cut. Just
score through with a craft knife and metal ruler
then your tile should be easy to snap along that
line. For awkward areas such as around the
bathroom suite or pipes, its a good idea to make
a paper or card template then use that as a guide
for cutting your tiles. -
- Laying vinyl tiles is a relatively easy job and
definitely one that you can do yourself. The
effect wont be as good as using proper bathroom
floor tiles but it will be a simple job that you
can get done quickly. - For more information visit http//www.tiles4all.co
