• The Indian monuments are the livig examples which
  takes us back to thousands of years and helps in
  exploring the history of india. These monuments
  in india offers a great help to study and know
  more about the ancient civilizations of India.
  They also attracts a large number of tourist from
  all over the world. Every monument has a story
  behind it and has a landmark status in the
  history of India

Among the Indian monuments, Taj Mahal
is considered to be one of the seven wonders of
the world.

Pollution is affecting the Monuments

• Monuments are getting spoiled,
• there is not one but many ways
• in which the valuable and literally
• non-renewable structures created
• originally by ancient artists of
• different dynasties are getting ruined.

• The chemicals are released and merged in the
  air through motor vehicles, coal-fired power
  plants, plastic factories and other heavy
  industries. Even spraying of pesticides and
  chemicals in agricultural fields are harming the
  quality of air. These bad elements share hands
  with the other acts causing harm to our heritage.
  All these negative human behavior together are
  ruining the environment, basic life and also our
  very prestigious precious world heritage sites.

• Built 350 years ago by the Mugal emperor Shah
  Jahan as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal,
  the Taj Mahal was built of marble, jade,
  turquoise, lapis lazuli and other precious stones.

The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as "the jewel
of Muslim art in India and one of the
universally admired masterpieces of the world's
heritage".

• But its shimmering white walls have begun to
  fade owing to the effect of pollution from
  vehicles, factories and workshops in the nearby
  city of Agra. Pollution has begun to mar the
  walls of this monument.

• Despite serious efforts by the Indian government
  to curb air pollution around the seventeenth
  century monument, its shimmering white marble is
  turning yellow. Airborne particles began
  settling down on the Taj Mahals shimmering white
  marble, imparting it a yellowish tinge.

Twelve years ago the government started a
programme to save the monument, with Bill Clinton
saying that Pollution had done what 350 years
of wars, invasions and natural disasters have
failed to do.
