Title: REMINDERS FOR A SMOOTH YEAR

1
REMINDERS FOR A SMOOTH YEAR!
  • Please mouse-click to advance
  • Slides!

2
BE ON TIME!
  • Doors open at 730 Students enter classrooms at
    745. The rule is EIGHT IS LATE!
  • Children entering the classroom at 745 are at an
    advantage because
  • they have time to unpack and greet friends before
    announcements.
  • they have more time to work on morning work which
is an extremely important part of our reading and
    writing program!

3
BE SURE TO SEND A NUTRITIOUS SNACK!
  • We take a daily morning break during our
Integrated Language Arts (ILA) Block therefore
  • Please choose snacks that your child can handle
independently (open, eat, etc.) and that are
    disposable (We often picnic outside).
  • Please choose healthy snacks! (NO CANDY or GUM) A
sugar-high is not advantageous to students as
they try to get back to work!
  • If your childs snack requires a fork, please be
sure to include one in their lunch box we do
not keep forks but we do supply spoons in the
    classroom.

4
LUNCH
  • Please place lunch (and snacks) in a lunchbox
(Not bags). Since we eat in our classroom, we
want to discourage uninvited friends (ants, etc.)
    into our classrooms!
  • Please be sure to send a placemat this can be a
standard placemat or a dish-towel. Either choice
MUST be able to be folded and stored in your
childs lunchbox daily. Please clean on a
regular basis. (A good idea is to purchase a few
at the beginning of the year so you can simply
interchange when you see one is dirty.) This is
very important because we eat on the desks that
we work on and they are often not the cleanest!
  • Please pack food that your child LIKES! If they
wont eat it at home, they wont eat it at school!

5
HOT LUNCHES
  • Hot Lunch may be purchased through Grauls
    online.
  • Be sure to mark on your home calendar the days
which you have purchased lunch for your child.

6
ICE CREAM
  • Ice Cream is sold every Friday.
  • You will be given the opportunity to purchase a
coupon book for ice cream at the beginning of the
year. Please take advantage of thismoney will
    not be accepted.
  • Students are welcome to keep their coupon books
on the left side of their take-home folder
this gives them the opportunity to independently
choose which ice cream they want and lessens the
    chance of forgetting!

7
BIRTHDAYS
  • We love to celebrate your childs birthday! If
you give a week notice, we will have a birthday
    crown for your child.
  • Cupcakes, cookies (any SELF-SERVE snack NO
cutting, plates, forks, etc.!) are acceptable.
Please send the snack in with your birthday child
when you drop them off in the morning. We
    strongly discourage parents from attending
because our snack time sometimes varies and while
we do take the time to stop, sing and honor the
birthday child this is incorporated into our
    very short morning break!
  • If you are planning a birthday party for your
child, please send the invitations through the
mail and not through school. This helps to avoid
hurt feelings if everyone cannot be invited!

8
TAKE-HOME FOLDERS
  • Each child has their own folder (white, ICS
folder) This is their take-home folder. Any
communications from school to home will be in
    this folder.
  • The folder has a left side and a right side.
The left side is for continuing work PLEASE do
not remove! The right side is for daily
communications PLEASE check, remove and place
all notes from you on the right side. Children
know to look on the right side for anything that
    needs to be turned in!
  • Please look at it daily, fill out any forms and
return it the very next day.
  • Folders need to be cleaned out daily. Any
letters, money, or communication to me should be
sent in this folder as well.
  • Any money that is sent to school MUST be for the
exact amount and placed in an envelope with your
childs name on it and what the envelope is for.

9
HOMEWORK FOLDERS
  • Each child has a green folder for homework.
  • We use the same left/right system as the white
    take-home folder.
  • Homework is to be turned in daily.
  • We post the homework weekly, but please resist
the urge to complete it all in one night. It
tends to discourage children and often we have
not taught the subject covered until it is
    assigned!
  • Please CHECK the homework, work with your child
to make corrections, then sign and have your
child place it on the right side of their
    folder!

10
DISCIPLINE
  • ABCS OF THE DAY
  • Students self assess at the end of the day for
  • A Attitude
  • B Behavior
  • C Community Building
  • Please discuss DAILY and sign WEEKLY
  • If we disagree with your childs assessment or if
your child has had unacceptable behavior, you
will find a note either on the ABCs or in your
    childs folder.
