A message from Shannon Hegger (currently studying
in Aix-en-Provence, France)

• I have been in Aix-en-Provence for nearly
• six weeks now, far away from family, friends
• and all I have ever known.  There has not
• yet been a day that I don't miss someone or
• something from home.  You may ask, Is it
• worth it?

• The answer is without a doubt, absolutely, 100,
  YES!

• In just six weeks I have already
• noticed a huge increase in my
• language skills and learned more
• about the French culture firsthand
• than I could ever hope to learn in a
• classroom even with the best of
• teachers.

• I have met people from all over the world
• including France, England, Spain, Italy,
• Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Japan,
• Australia, China and Madagascar.  I feel as
• though I have unveiled a side of me that I
• never knew existed, discovering adventure
• and creativity and achieving satisfaction
• like never before.

My journey thus far has not necessarily been the
easiest nor the most fun at times and it is far
from over, but even across the rockiest of paths,
I am well aware that the benefits far outweigh
the pitfalls.  Nothing that is truly worthwhile
is ever easy... if it were, what sense of
accomplishment could we possibly obtain?
