Title: What We Have Heard So Far

1
What We Have Heard So Far
  • Heart and dedication are evident
  • We are proud of our community and want to
    preserve it
  • We are nervous about what that will look like as
we change and grow. (Can we still call ourselves
a family or are we a community of communities?)
  • There are reasons we have not had the chance to
talk to each other across colleges outreach
with one another takes time and has seemed like a
    luxury.
  • The work that gets done in committee is not
trusted because information is not systematically
shared and acted upon, and it is not clear who is
    on the committees.
  • People all around feel accused of lacking in
integrity because lack of trust is a common
criticism (related to a lack of agreed upon
    shared governance processes)

2
CGPS Faculty and Staff
  • We are just like the rest of you
  • We are here for the students and the programs and
    we have that in common
  • We need more transparency between Rindge and CGPS
  • We are the floaters with the mother ship and we
know it will take a while to connect more
  • We in the graduate programs are reliant on Rindge
for infrastructure that is available at Rindge.
  • Takes time but we are looking forward to working
    together more
  • Integration with Rindge will mean many things
for all of us and feels daunting.
  • We want you to trust us and not see us as bad
    people
  • Hope people wont fear the on line process of
    learning and teaching
  • CGPS is in the middle of big changes itself in
addition to integrating well as a full part of
    Franklin Pierce University
  • Would be nice to develop relationships across
    professional degrees
  • With all of the problems we are able to create
programs quickly that meet the needs of a
    changing environment
  • Our marketing is piecemeal
  • Mental shifts of the University as a PLACE
(campus) to the University as a collection of
    places and people
  • CGPS infrastructure needs are great and access to
technology, offices and keys is frustrating
  • CGPS seems to be in the frontier lots of change
and challenge but lots of excitement
  • We probably have more in common with the Rindge
faculty in terms of disciplines and professional
foci that we think or acknowledge
  • CGPS faculty dont really come together as a
group to talk with each other we only meet in
smaller, program and department groups so a sense
as a unit is not there, much less a sense of
    connection with Rindge faculty

Rindge Faculty and Staff
  • Interesting to see silos in the CGPS group,
didnt think that was present there.
  • Wanted to hear more of a concrete link to our
identity in the work of CGPS
  • There are also disconnects in Rindge among staff
and faculty departments not just between Rindge
    and CGPS.
  • Notion that somehow Rindge was seen as the
infrastructure Mecca we got it good?
  • We really burden ourselves with high expectations
with the terms community and family we can
improve but maybe not to that degree.
  • Frustrated in the work it takes to market a
    program
  • Need better communication structures internally
before program promotion occurs that folks here
    dont know about.
  • Currently, staff on Rindge campus are
compartmentalized between Rindge and CGPS and
that is a good opportunity to integrate more.
  • Registrars office on Rindge campus, but is not a
    Rindge exclusive office.
  • We are organizationally conservative and the
box we operate in is about academic integrity
still can think outside the box.
  • Rindge and CGPS faculty have told stories about
each other and being in the room with each other
is good so our stories about each other can get
more real. We are being asked to have some level
of a shared identity to what degree? What do
we want? What is the role of faculty in
governance? We dont know what shared governance
means? If you want my input, then please value
    it.
  • In terms of teaching, the primary difference I
see is cultural and generational - what do we
have in common (texting students?) and what are
    our real differences?
  • Rindge faculty are not neophytes at on line
teaching. We do some of that
  • This day is not surprising and is long over due
CGPS has done so much in such a short time, but
much of our work load at Rindge is intense and it
prohibits our connecting with each other
    (outreach takes TIME).
  • Values issues valuing student experience, but
do we value each others work and experiences
across colleges? We DO need a shared
understanding of valuing the work of one another.

Q and A
  • What is the DA program and what does it do?
  • What do you mean by our faculties having a lot in
    common for this program?
  • There are things we can learn from each other
  • Connects well to the whole mission of the
    university
  • Is there resentment towards the Rindge faculty?
  • Frustrating not to have the infrastructure we
    need
  • Is there are sense that Rindge faculty would
threaten the entrepreneurial spirit of CGPS?
  • The economy is seen as potentially clipping our
    wings, not Rindge faculty.
  • Rindge may be just as entrepreneurial but we
    wouldnt know.
  • Rindge works well so it is less a question of
    entrepreneurial
  • One HUGE issue is whether we have a shared vision
or a sense ENOUGH of a shared culture to work
    together.
  • For example, what is 4 1 program? Many had
    never heard of it
  • Some perceive this has been imposed on Rindge,
yet the undergraduate business faculty have been
    a part of this planning.
  • Sense of committees being hijacked for a
    specific program illustrates difficulty of
    governance
  • Rindge students are exploring and CGPS students
are career focused and this maintains a
    separation
  • Has there been any attention to managing the work
load of Rindge faculty? CGPS sees this intensity
on the part of Rindge faculty
  • Desperately need and started and stopped
  • Is the education Masters a go? Not currently
for this year. Needs to be done collegially
