  • Train to Share is an IMLS grant-funded
    training program affiliated with the Texas
    Heritage Digitization Initiative, which aims to
    offer unified online access to unique cultural
    heritage materials held by Texas institutions

Train to Share
  • The intention of this three-year project, Train
    to Share, is to address the need for quality,
    shareable metadata for digitized special
    collections
  • The audience for this training opportunity is
    mainly metadata specialists working in libraries,
    archives, museums, and state and local government
    agencies across Texas

  • Participants will digitize 1000 objects over a
    three year period, working with TSLAC and our
    strategic partners Amigos Library Services for
    training and the University of North Texas to
    share their digital objects through a federated
    search portal

Intended Outcomes
  • Train to Share aims to
  • improve the quality and consistency of metadata
  • educate metadata specialists
  • create new and sustainable partnerships vital to
    the ongoing development of digital projects
    across the state
  • improve access to rare and unique materials

Get Involved
  • Participants in Train to Share are teams of
    three organizations, working together for the
    purpose of collaborative digitization.
  • Teams consist of different types of cultural
    heritage organizations such as an academic
    library, a museum, public library, historical
    society, etc. and a state archive (with at least
    one library and one museum)
  • Teams will design a digital project concerning a
    Texas theme or a region (ex. Mexican Revolution)

  • Project Teams receive
  • 3,000 per year in grant funds
  • Free training for 3-5 staff per project
  • Technical assistance
