Title: A Brief History of the Pearl Strand Necklaces
1A Brief History of the Pearl Strand Necklaces
An archeologist in a Persian city came across a
necklace made of three pearl strands with seventy
two pearls on each string in 1901 and this is
recorded and believed to be the oldest pearls
strands in their history. These beautiful Tiffany
Jewelery pearl strands were found lodged in the
sarcophagus of a queen of the ancient city and
since is said to be over three thousand years
ago. This gives us a good idea about how far back
these necklaces date and their evolution of
design and evergreen popularity is pretty
impressive.
2What is so unique and distinct about pearls is
that their history is that traces of it are found
in many different cultures. For instance in Rome,
these were looked at as a symbol of social status
and wealth to such an extent that at a certain
time a law was passed that permitted Tiffany Co
Discount only Elite members of the society to
wear these precious gems. The people of Greece
considered them to be symbolic of marriage and
love and it is perhaps from this root that brides
today wear strands of pearls to compliment their
white gowns. The Metropolitan museum of New York
has on display a Greek necklace which is dated
over two thousand three hundred years old.
3As time progressed the design and making of these
pearls began to evolve. Researchers invested
their time and money in the search of new and
different varieties and the cost of the natural
gems rose considerably. One significant even in
history that attests to the monetary value of
pearls in the early 1900s is that the well known
Jacques Cartier traded two strands of pearls for
his store Fifth Avenue. Kokichi Mokimoto was
perhaps one of the most famous pearl researchers
and the culturing of the now famous Akoya pearl
is accredited to Tiffanys Sale his name. He
cultured these perfectly round and smooth beads
which can easily be strung in a line on a string.
