3 What is Corruption?
- Corruption affects all regions of the world and
all levels of society, but the impact is greatest
in developing countries. Every year, developing
countries lose USD 50 million to 100 million
through corrupt acts (World Bank estimate, 2004). - Corruption undermines political, social and
economic stability and damages trust in
institutions and authorities. It also fuels
transnational crime. Terrorists and organized
criminals are aided in their illegal activities
by the complicity of corrupt public officials.
Corruption is of particular concern for the
worlds police and judicial systems, as
corruption in one country can compromise an
entire international investigation.
4Corruption in India Some facts
- Political and bureaucratic corruption in India
are major concern - 45 of Indians had first hand experience of
paying bribes - In 2010, India was ranked 87th corrupted country
out of 178 countries - India tops the list for black money in the entire
world with almost US1456 billion in Swiss bank - In July 2008 The Washington Post reported that
nearly a fourth of the 540 Indian parliament
members faced criminal charges, "including human
trafficking, immigration rackets, embezzlement, ra
pe and even murder".

7 What is Jan Lokpal?
- Janlokpal bill is a proposed independent anti
corruption law in India - This bill is for the appointment of a Janlokpal,
an independent body that would investigate
corruption case within a year and send the guilty
to jail - It is drafted by Justice Santhosh Hedge,
Prashanth Bhushan and Arvindh Kejriwal - It gives the power to Janlokpal to prosecute
higher authorities without govt permission, if
found guilty - India Against Corruption is a movement which
involves many leaders and it says An expression
of collective anger of people , where all come
together to force/request/persuade/pressurize the
Govt to enact the Janlokpal bill, to destroy
CORRUPTION
8Anna Hazare
- Anna Hazare went on a fast unto death in April,
demanding for the bill. After 4 days of fast,
govt set up a committee to draft the bill, but
didnt agree the fundamental elements. So, he
started his fast again on Aug 16th. Large number
