Anger.Is it good or bad?
4
Ways to manage your anger
5
Relaxation
  • Relaxationthis is one of the most powerful tools
to use in overcoming anger although it is very
hard to access in the heat of the moment. There
are many different ways to encourage relaxation
    including meditation, prayer, taking deep
breathes and participating in yoga or other forms
    of relaxing exercises. Sometimes utilizing
different phrases such as relax or cool it
over and over again can calm the anger.

6
Cognitive Restructuring
  • Cognitive Restructuring when somebody uses the
words always or never when engaged in an
argument, they are conditioning their thinking to
be focusing on absolutes while in a conversation
fused with anger. Cognitive Restructuring is
when we recondition our thinking to be more
positive and rational. If we are thinking
    realistically, then we prevent irrational
behavior and tend to not set such high demands on
people and ultimately, tend to be calmer.

7
Problem Solving
  • Problem Solving-- this diffuses the emotional
energy of anger by approaching it from a
standpoint of there is a solution to this.
Deciding that there is a solution to the anger,
making a plan to fix the situation and focusing
on a good outcome is an almost fail-safe way to
    deal with it.

8
Better communication
  • Better Communication Listening is one very
critical and often overlooked component to
communication. Instead of thinking about what
youre not getting or how badly this is affecting
you, try to better understand where the other
person is coming from. If you can slow down
enough to hear the other person, then you will
have a better chance of being able to articulate
what the true nature of your anger is. Most
people tend to think that their thinking is the
only right way and often treat the other person
like they are wrong or that they dont know what
they are talking about. This should help
alleviate this kind of thinking in the heat of
    the moment.

9
Using humor
  • Using Humor Dont take yourself so darn
seriously, period. Try picturing yourself as a
young warthog with one goal. That goal is to get
muddy. How could you be angry if you were
actually a warthog playing in the mud? (Im not
really sure where that came from but itd
probably work). Try to not be sarcastic or harsh
about your humor though, this might actually
encourage the anger to grow instead of defusing
    it.

10
Change your environment
  • Change Your Environment Some people might
consider this taking a break or giving yourself a
timeout. When engulfed in the anger of the
moment, it is very helpful and often times the
best solution to immediate relief of your anger.
Giving yourself a little time and distance from
the situation will give you a chance to calm down
and analyze what is going on and approach it in a
    different manner.
