er for grades fifth through eighth. Many of the
activities and resources can be used for
different levels. Goals and Objectives We want t
o create a resource for teaching the decade of
the 1960s. The resources are varied and touch
upon many different aspects of this decade.

civil rights movement. 2. The students will pick
one civil rights leader and research them and
present an oral report on their leader.

during the sixties and ask them questions about
the decade. 4. The students will create a timelin
e of the Vietnam War. 5. We will have a Vietnam V
eteran visit the class and talk about the war.

Rights Movement, speak to students.

The students will perform a skit about the role
that
Rosa parks played during the bus boycott.
2. They will create and display a class timeline
of events that happened during the 1960s to bene
fit Womens Rights.
An active Civil Rights woman from the 1960s will
come speak to the class about her experiences of
that time.
4. Students will research an active leader during
the Movement and will present the information to
the class.
5. Each student will read a book about Womens
Rights and present a report, acting as the main
character of the book.

Take the class on a field trip to Washington,
stopping at the Eternal Flame and The Kennedy Ce
nter.
2. Watch JFK as a class, and discuss the
details of the movie.
As a class, listen to the broadcasts of The shot
heard around the World discuss the emotional s
tate of the country on 11/22/63.
The students will watch the first televised
presidential debate and write a persuasive essay
on which candidate they would have voted for
and why.
Conduct a class debate, with half of the students
presenting the issues of Kennedy, while the oth
er half present Nixons issues.

have provided a wide range of learning
experiences for students and a resource for teac
