What is E-Navigation?
  • IMO seeks to develop a strategic vision for the
    utilization of existing and new navigational
    tools, in particular electronic tools, in a
    holistic and systematic manner. The goal is to
    help reduce navigational accidents, errors and
    failures by developing standards for an accurate
    and cost effective system.
  • The E is not strictly defined
  • It generally means enhanced/electronic

  • Input paper to IMO MSC 81 May 2006
  • Japan, Marshall Islands, the Netherlands, Norway,
    Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States
  • Formation of a Correspondence Group at IMO NAV
    52, June 2006 to develop an e-navigation strategy
  • Formation of an e-NAV Committee at IALA,
