Hercules the legend

• Greatest of all heroes
• Had supreme confidence and unflinching courage

Personal characteristics of Hercules

• Always hurt people or things without meaning to,
  but would not forgive himself until he did
  penance
• Hera sent two snakes to kill Hercules as a child,
  but Hercules killed both of them and handed them
  to his brother

• First wife
• Hercules killed her and his two children out a
  mad rage brought on by Hera, he didnt know what
  h was doing
• An oracle told Hercules to atone for his actions
  he had to go to Mycenae and perform what ever he
  wanted to atone for his actions
• He made him do the twelve labors

Twelve Labors!

• 1st Labor- Kill the lion of Nemea, did this by
  choking the life out of it
• 2nd Labor- kill the nine headed monster hydra,
  did this by chopping off the heads then burning
  them so they couldnt grow back and then put a
  large boulder on the head that was immortal
• 3rd Labor- bring back alive a stag with golden
  horns, he hunted the animal for a year before
  capturing it

• 4th Labor- to capture a wild boar in Mt.
  Erymanthus, he chased the hog until he finally
  wore it out and captured it
• 5th Labor- clean the Augean stables in a single
  day, he changed the course of a river to make it
  throw through the stables
• 6th labor- drive away the stymphalian birds, he
  was helped by Athena in shooting down all the
  birds

• 7th Labor- go to Crete and fetch a wild and
  savage bull that Poseidon had placed there, he
  tamed the bull then brought it back by ship
• 8th Labor- get the man eating mares of king
  Diomedes, he killed the king first then took care
  of the mares
• 9th Labor- bring back the girdle from the queen
  of the Amazons, she agreed but Hera sturd up
  trouble and then hercules killed the queen and
  took it

• 10th labor- to bring back the cattle Geryon
• 11th labor- bring back the golden apples of
  Hesperides, he did this by going to atlas and
  asking him to bring him the apples while he held
  the sky instead of atlas then atlas tried to make
  Hercules keep holding the sky but hercules
  tricked him by asking him to hold the sky for a
  second so he could put a pad on his shoulders

• 12th labor- to bring the there headed dog from
  the underworld, he defeated the giant dog using
  his only his hands

• Fought river god Achelous for
• Achelous turned into a bull and attacked Hercules
  , he defeated and tore off one of his horns

• Rescued Prometheus from his imprisonment on the
  rock
• Rescued a princess from a sea serpent and a
  pestilence
• accidentally killed a boy who was washing his
  hands before a dinner
• deliberately killed a friend whos father had
  insulted him

The end of Hercules

• His wife sent him a robe that would make him fall
  back in love with her, the robe actually killed
  anyone who wore it, but it could not kill
  Hercules it just made him suffer, Deinara heard
  of what she had done and killed herself, Hercules
  ended up doing the same because no one could kill
  him it seemed he was to powerful
