6
Each Skill Progresses in Difficulty by Grade Level
  • This allows teachers to differentiate by
remediating or accelerating as necessary while
students remain in the same topic as their class.
  • Example Booklet A
  • Numbers and Place Value
  • Begins with A-1, Zero to Five, (Kindergarten)
and progresses through A-32, Numbers to 100 on
the Number Line, and A-33, Number Line Estimation
    (Grade 3)

7

  • Booklet G Operations with Whole Numbers in
    Grades 4-6
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Multiplication and Division Facts

  • Multiplying and Dividing by Greater Numbers
  • Booklet H Fractions, Decimals, and Percents in
    Grades 4-6
  • Understanding Fractions and Decimals
  • Operations with Fractions and Mixed Numbers
  • Operations with Decimals

Just in Time
  • Intervention at Point of Use within the regular
    program

11
Topic Opener Review What You Know
From Grade 1, Topic 7 Subtraction Facts to 12
12
Review What You Know tests previous grade content
to determine Topic readiness. The Item Analysis
lists the objective of each question, the
standard, in which lesson the skill will be
utilized, and a reference to MDIS page for
targeted student remediation, if necessary.

14
For Topic Tests and Reviews
(same item analysis)
15
Alternate assessments (free-response, performance
based) have their own item analysis.
16
MDIS used as a stand-aloneDiagnostic and
Intervention program
17
Each box comes with a booklet of diagnostic tests
  • Aligns with each of the substrands in each
    booklet Using the Diagnostic Tests
  • For entry-level assessment, choose the
    appropriate diagnostic test based on
  • whether you want to diagnose readiness by
testing content that should have already been
    learned or
  • you want to give a pretest on content you plan to
teach. For summative evaluation, choose the test
or part of a test that assesses the content you
    covered.

18
Tests are Grade and Content specific- Allows for
targeted intervention
  • Each diagnostic test focuses on grade-specific
    content.
  • Each test is broken into parts. Each part covers
one of the subtopics in one of Booklets AE.
(It is NOT one big test!)
  • You can give the entire test or just certain
    parts.
  • Note that problem solving is integrated
    throughout each Diagnostic Test.

19
Opportunities for pre/post test
  • Forms A and B are parallel item for item.
  • At Grades K3, children record responses right on
    the page.

20
Using the Class Record Form The Class Record
Form is a good way to get a profile on the
performance of individual students as well as
groups of students. When the form is completed,
you can quickly see areas of strength and
weakness for an individual (by looking across a
row) or for groups of students (by looking down
the columns).
21
  • Use with Form A or Form B
  • Indicate missed items
  • Record scores
  • Record intervention assignments
  • Check correlation information to assess
    understanding

22
Determine Specific Areas to Test
  • Not all content areas may need diagnosis
  • Test judiciously
  • Post test to inform further instruction

24
Step-Up to the Next Grade
  • Step Up Lessons
  • Reteach pages
  • Teaching Tools

25
Step-Up lessons are taken from the MDIS
  • Packet contains Teacher Lesson and Student page
    for 20 lessons.
  • Student page in the packet is the SAME PAGE that
is in the students homework book
  • Frontloads key standards
  • Refer to list for which lessons are recommended
    or optional
  • Contain the Step-Up Quiz

26
Reteach Pages
  • To provide additional support for classroom
instruction, teachers have a packet with a
reteach page from the upcoming grade that
corresponds to the skill in the Step-Up lesson.
  • The lesson correlation is found
  • in the MDIS teachers guide.

27
Teaching Tools
  • Teaching Tools (manipulatives and graphic aids)
    are included to support lessons
  • Found in packet with reteaching pages

28
Adding a Grade to your Log-in
  • Go to Red Home Page
  • Click My Account
  • Scroll down and click Manage Products
  • Click Add New Products
  • Enter the access code for the grade you choose
    (see next slide for codes)
  • Click Check Code, then Save.
  • Log Out. When you log back in, the added grade
should show up in the Navigation Bar.

29
Access Codes
Note The 09 are numbers, as in 2009.
30
Each teacher should have
  • 1 Step-Up lessons from MDIS
  • 2 Packet with matching Reteach pages and
    Teaching Tools

31
All Components of the MDIS are available
online -Click on TE, then Printable Resources

Other Recommendations!
  • Give students the opportunity to master LANDMARK
skills before moving on to the next grade
  • http//k6math.rusd.k12.ca.us/landmarks.htm
  • Incorporate CENTER ACTIVITIES for additional
conceptual and computational practice (and fun!)
