5SNLC Athlete Development Goals
- Vertical integration of all programs including
Track Attack under one Athlete Development
Program.
- Development of programs that develop life long
athletes and athletes that may go on to
international level competition.
- Implementation of Sport Canadas new Athlete
Development Model into our programs.
6New Athlete Development Model
- Requires that children correctly learn
fundamental movement skills and that these skills
are introduced during the optimal point in their
physical development which is prior to age 11 for
girls and age 12 for boys. - Provides overall health benefits as children
develop physical literacy.
- Provides a pathway for those who want to compete
and excel at the international level.
- The same model is being followed by all National
sport organizations and schools throughout our
country.
7We will achieve our Athlete Development Goals by
- Ensuring our instructors are trained under the
new competency based national coaching
certification program, which parallels the new
Long Term Athlete Development Model. - Offering more session to Track Attack program
participants.
- Encourage schools to send students for 3 or 4
consecutive years in order to develop a life long
commitment to sport and develop optimal physical
literacy.
8- By increasing the number of sessions and
frequency of cross country ski sessions over the
key developmental years, our school children will
develop fundamental movement skills at the
optimum time in their development. - Following the same Sport Canada model for Long
Term Athlete Development as school programs
ensures that our children are consistently
presented with the same skill development
progressions for their developmental age.

10Cross Country Ski Program
-
- The Sovereign Lake Nordic Club, Track Attack
Elementary School Ski program began 8 years ago.
Over the past 8 years this program has grown to
be a model for school Nordic programs in Canada.
Each year many school children participate in
this popular program. Through this program
students have the opportunity participate in the
sport of cross country skiing, develop their ski
technique with the help of our CANSII certified
Instructors, and gain appreciation and knowledge
of our winter wonderland through various winter
safety and interpretation activities. Most
importantly they have lots of fun, while
participating in a truly Canadian winter
activity. - Our lesson plans are designed to follow the
National Coaching Certification (NCCP) curriculum
which parallels the Long Term Athlete
Development Model (LTADM) recently released by
Sport Canada, the focus of this Model is to
develop physical literacy in children. The LTADM
requires that children correctly learn
fundamental movement skills and that these skills
are introduced during the optimal point in their
physical development which is prior to age 11 for
girls and age 12 for boys. This model is being
implemented in sport systems throughout Canada
including sporting clubs and schools. This is
why the Track Attack Ski SCool program fits so
well into our school system and that so many
teachers have incorporated Track Attack into
their curriculum. -
