What is Employers for Learning?

• A benefit employers may provide to their
  employees with children or grandchildren
• A program that supports businesses desire to
  support education and help employees create
  work-life balance
• Newport News Public Schools provides employers
  with resources to help employees learn more about
  their childrens education and become more
  involved and informed.
• The Newport News Educational Foundation and
  Newport News Public Schools started the program
  in 1999 and it underwent revision in 2007.

• Being family-friendly can help a business recruit
  and keep top workers, improve productivity, and
  increase employee motivation and loyalty.
• Family-friendly policies help a company become a
  recognized community citizen.
• Companies can help todays students become

  download presentations for employees
• Age-specific information to share with
  parents/caretakers to help their child be
  successful in school
• E-mail monthly newsletter Employers For Learning
• Opportunities for Lunch n Learn workshops for
  employees

Business/Education Liaison

• The Business/Education Liaison is the employee
  who is designated to coordinate worksite
  programs.
• Through Lunch n Learn workshops employees can
  receive information at the worksite.
• Liaisons can easily access presentation materials
  on a secure NNPS website

• An Orientation to Employers For Learning
  Resources for employer liaisons coordinating
  worksite programs
• A marketing flyer
• A list of presentations and their descriptions
  detailing age specificity
• A list of References and Resources for follow-up
  after the meeting

Employers For Learning Newsletter

• E-mail newsletters (memo) will still be sent to
  all business liaisons once a month
• Memo will include general educational features,
  information, tips for parents to help them with
  their childs school work, and a calendar of
  events
