4Performance Testing Between Matisse Sites
- Performance testing conducted between sites using
the following systems/configurations - 1500 byte MTUs
- mix of 400Mhz1Ghz processesor intel machines
with Linux - mix of 64 bit/66 Mhz and 32bit/33 Mhz PCI bus
machines - SysKonnect, Intel, 3Com, or Alteon Gigabit
Ethernet NIC cards - Single Stream UDP, Single Stream TCP, Multiple
Stream TCP - iperf application (http//dast.nlanr.net/Projects/
Iperf/) - SuperNet Monitoring Testing tools

11Summary/Issues/Future Upgrades
- Expectations for SuperNet connected hosts with
1500 byte MTU, when using a machine with Dual
Ghz processors, and 64bit/66Mhz pci bus - 300-400 Mbits/s UDP, 150-250 Mbits/s single
stream TCP - Expectations met for some host/network locations
and not others - Performance for sites not directly connected to
SuperNet (LBL,UCB) is less than
desired/acceptable due to - Other network infrastructure link speeds
- Other network infrastructure equipment
types/configurations - asymmetric routes
- Future upgrade recommendations/plans
- Analyze and determine what the host variation
factors are(cpu, nic card type, pci bus, os) - Analyze and debug network issues (PSC/CMU local
infrastructure?wan connection?) - reconnect other sites (LBL and UCB) to SuperNet
- change MTU sizes to 4470 bytes (to match SONET)
- requires some equipment purchases
- ensure all hosts are GHz processor with
64bit/66Mhz PCI bus - upgrade BossNet to OC48
- Expectations are that we will be able to achieve
about 600 Mbits/s single stream TCP between all
Matisse sites with these upgrades.
