Overview
  • The intent of these Best Practices is to give the
    Local Section and its leaders some concepts and
    ideas that have proven successful in other Local
    Sections in the 3 years. There are many
    suggestions here and you are encouraged to try
    the 1 or 2 that you feel is most appropriate for
    your section and its members . If you have any
    questions on the Best Practices please contact
    Anette Ngijol at anets_at_aiche.org and she will be
    able to put you in contact with a member of the
    Local Sections Committee for a more in-depth
    explanation.

Meeting Enhancements
  • Good Meeting Turnout - increase of attendees
  • Get creative speakersnot necessarily technical
    i.e., husband and wife team
  • Rotate locations of meetings
  • Hold joint meetings with other professional
    organizations
  • Importance of Networking Mentoring

  • Designate a Student Liaison as an officer
    position within a local section
  • Designate a faculty member as a local section
    officer
  • Share University information with Local Sections
  • Hold meetings on campus for students

Speakers Bureau
  • More useful for smaller sections that dont have
    a large network
  • Include faculty members on Speakers list
  • Acquire recommendations from other sections
    regarding speakers in area
  • Keep costs down by using local speakers
  • List topics of interest on the National website
  • Include portion on dues bill to check off if want
    to be a speaker

Lunch Meetings
  • Expands networking base
  • Enhances ability to gain volunteers
  • Increases participation of those that cant
    attend night meetings
  • Helps members with young families
  • Work groups attend together
  • Hold meetings at ChE facilities on a rotating
    basis

  • Personal Thank You telephone call
  • Personal Thank You note can be handwritten
  • Send letter of personal recognition to employer
    when appropriate
  • Put major recent accomplishments in the Local
    Section newsletter
  • Send major recent accomplishments to the local
    newspaper
  • Send brief report of Local Section significant
    events to National for publication in CEP
    magazine

  • Free Lunch/Dinner/Plant Meeting
  • Nominate Local Section members for Fellow status
  • The recognition can be a certificate, plaque or
    some modest monetary award cash / stock / bonds
  • Free tickets to section events sports events
  • Select Members for the Local Section Volunteer
    Hall of Fame

Personal Awards
  • Make presentation of individual awards at Local
    Section Meetings encourages supporting group to
    attend
  • Make presentation of Leadership (corporate)
    awards at Local Section Meetings encourages
    supporting group (subordinates) to attend
  • Have pictures taken during the Awards event to go
    along with the Award
