9Here is a timeline of the events of the Great
Fire
- Saturday 1st September 9pm Thomas Farryner
prepared for Sabbath and went to bed. - Sunday 2nd 1-2 am. The fire starts in the
bakery. - 3am the fire destroyed Pudding Lane.
- 4am the parish constable and watchman contacted
the Lord Mayor. - 7am 300 houses had been burnt.
- 8am Samuel Pepys walked to the tower where he
watched people leaving London. - 10am Samuel Pepys told the King to pull the
houses down. - 6pm the navy blew up some houses.
- Monday 3rd September 4am Samuel Pepys left for
Bethanal Green.

- 9am Fire posts are set up around the city.
- 11am Samuel Pepys returned to bury his wine and
cheese. - 3pm Lombard street, the financial heart of the
city is destroyed. - Tuesday 4th September 8 am. The fire is at its
most fierce. - 3pm the Tower of London is saved by blowing up
surrounding buildings. - 8pm the fire reaches Saint Pauls.
- Wednesday 5th September 1 am the Queen leaves for
Hampton Court. - Noon the fire is put out.
