History of NASCAR
  • In the summer of 1938, William H.G. "Bill" France
    organized a race on the firm sands of Daytona
    Beach, Florida. NASCAR had begun.
  • He soon realized for stock car racing to grow, an
    official organization had to exist.
  • In December of 1947, Bill France SR., of Daytona
    Beach, Fla.., organized a meeting at the
    Streamline Hotel in town to discuss the matters
    facing stock car racing.

  • Over three days, rules and specifications were
    drawn and agreed upon.
  • The name of the organization would be
  • NASCAR- the National Association of Stock Car
    Auto Racing.
  • Jim Roper, driving a '49 Lincoln, went down as
    the first winner of the first ever NASCAR race.
  • Red Byron became NASCAR's first ever national
    champion.

  • NASCAR history can be traced back to its roots in
    1794, during the Whiskey Rebellion.
  • During the Prohibition era 1920s, early 1930s,
    the business of secretly transporting whiskey.
    The drivers soon began to race one another to see
    who had the fastest car. Racing moonshine cars
    became very popular in the backroads of the
    South.

On December 12, 1947 Bill France gathered
promoters from the southeast, northeast, and
Midwest in Daytona. The first true NASCAR race wa
s held at the Charlotte, North Carolina
Fairgrounds on June 19,1949.

Kevin Harvick
  • Birthdate Dec 08, 1975
  • Kevin Harvick's racing career began in his
    toddler years. When he graduated from
    kindergarten, his parents gave him a go-kart to
    race around the local tracks in sunny
    Bakersfield, Calif.
  • For 10 years that Kevin raced go-karts, he won
    seven national and two grand national go-kart
    titles before moving on to the Featherlite
    Southwest Series in 1992, where he raced
    part-time while completing high school.
  • After finishing high school Kevin moved on to a
    full-time effort in the Featherlite Series. He
    took rookie of the year honors in 1995.
  • Kevin went to school at Bakersfield Junior
    College.

Jeff Gordon
  • Birthdate Aug 04, 1971
  • Gordon won 22 USAC races and garnered 55 top-five
    and 66 top-10 finishes.
  • Gordon won his first sprint car win came in 1986
    at the KC Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio.
  • In 1990, at age 19, Gordon became the youngest
    USAC National Midge Champion in history. A year
    later, he won the USAC dirt title to become the
    youngest Silver Crown winner ever.
  • In 1991, after taking Buck Bakers driving school
    at North Carolina Speedway, Jeff told his
    stepfather to sell everything. Were going stock
    car racing.
  • Gordon won three Busch Series races in 1992
    before jumping to Cup racing,
  • He won rookie of the year honors in 1993 and the
    first of his four titles in 1995.
  • Gordon also took top honors in 97, 98 and 2001.

Dale Earnhardt
  • He won seven nascar championships.
  • 80, 86, 87, 90, 91 ,93, and 94
  • In 1998 Dale Earnhardt won the Daytona 500.
  • He die during a race at Daytona on Feb. 18,
    2001.
  • The death of dale Earnhardt on the last lap of
    the 2001 Daytona 500 moved America like no
    athlete death ever had.

Talladega Super Speedway
  • Racing at Talladega is lot like driving down the
    interstate with a lot of traffic, and then you
    hit construction. All of the lanes swerve and
    youre not really sure where to go and you just
    hope all of the cars around you dont mess up.
    There is not much time to react, so you just hope
    the other drivers use their heads and dont do
    anything crazy.

2005 season a 24 jump from 2004 (204) and up 8
from the previous high (235) in 2003.
