16- Who are you sending it to, a

- If its in response to a published job opening,
where applicants are screened by HR, use a
functional resume which clearly shows why you are
qualified for the job.
17- When your resume is going to a human resource
office, it must be no more than one page and
clearly present that you are qualified. On the
average, an HR representative spends 20 seconds
scanning your resume.
18- If you are applying for a teaching job in higher
education, use a Curriculum Vita. - However, if you are going to work in Higher Ed
but not teach, use a functional resume.

what type of industry are they in
For-Profit, Government,
Non-Profit International,

- If the information is important to the employer,
it belongs on your resume. If not, remove it. - Place information on a resume in order of its
importance to the employer. - You must be honest, but not exact or detailed.
- There is no right way to write a resume you
decide what is best. - You will know how effective it is by the number
of interviews you receive.
26- Objectives An objective is a key part of a
resume. It must communicate to the reader at
least three of the following aspects - The job you want,
- The industry,

28- On putting references on a resume or attaching
them. - Your goal is to get the employer to contact you
about an interview. - When you automatically provide references, they
dont have to talk to you to get them.
29- Wait until after you have been interviewed to
provide references so that you can prepare them
for the call by telling them - Who will be calling
- About the position
- Why you are qualified
- What you want them to say
about you
30- Why should you run the risk of getting an
unintentional bad reference because you couldnt
prepare your contact effectively? - Whenever possible, wait until an employer asks
you for references to provide them.
31- SCANNABLE RESUMES
- A scannable resume is required by a few companies
who use a computerized scanning system (like
Resumex) to review your resume beforehand. If
you are applying for a published job opening,
call the HR office and ask if they require a
scannable resume.
32- A scannable resume is not an additional resume
style, it is a different way of formatting your
existing resume. If you run into an employer who
requires that you provide a scannable resume - Download from our website www.ecu.edu/e3careers
our handout on making your resume scannable.
33- The difference between the right word and the
almost right word is the difference between
