3Underwater hockey
- Originally called Octopush, Underwater hockey was
started in 1954 by British diving clubs.
- Sport in which fitness, swimming skills, and
snorkeling skills are all improved by playing.
- Non-contact sport. Incidental contact is allowed,
but charging, holding, and obstructing are
illegal.

- What is the purpose of the game?
- It is to push or pass a lead puck along the
bottom of the pool, by using an underwater hockey
stick, into the opposing teams goal.
5How many people played a game?
Two teams of ten players. Six players per team a
re in the water, with four substitutes on the
deck. Men and women can play in a mixed team, a
nd in a single-sex side. Even when women are
slightly less stronger than men, they usually are
more skillful.
6What personal equipment is used?
Mask, snorkel, mouth protection, ear protectors,
fins, glove and a stick

- General equipment
- The stick shall be made of wood, plywood or other
homogeneous material that floats horizontally in
the water.The edges must be rounded.
- The puck is made of lead recovered by protective
plastic covering with round edges. The puck shall
weigh 1.3 0.2 kg.
- The goal areas should be made of galvanised or
stainless steel, with all sharp edges removed or
protected.

- Fitness and subbing are important, as it is
optimal to have 2/3 of the players in the water
on the bottom at all times.
- Individual dives are usually short, less than 30
seconds between breaths.

- How long does a game lasts?
- Competition games consist of two halves, each
- 15 minutes long, with a 2 minute half-time for
- teams to swap ends.

- About 23 countries currently play underwater
hockey, but day by day this sport is expanding
its horizonts
Every two years a World Championship is played.
Next year the championship will be held in New
Zealand
