- By 2014 North Carolina will need 400,000 new
workers with at least a bachelors degree. NC
institutions (public and private) are projected
to have 254,000 graduates. - By 2015, 85 of new jobs in the US will require
some post secondary education. - By 2020, the shortage of workers with
college-level skills in the US will increase to

- US ranks second in the world in percentage of
older adults with college degrees, but ranks
seventh in the world in younger adults with
college degrees. - US has high rate of college participation 35 or
5th in the world. - Degree completion rate in US is 17 - in the

- Approximately 28 of US residents age 25 and
older have earned a college degree. - Approximately 26 of NC residents of age 25 and
older have earned a college degree. - The percentage of adults with college degree in
Cumberland and all surrounding counties is lower

- The emphasis on retention and graduation rates
marks a shift in the role of higher education. - From weeding out undeserving students to taking
responsibility for helping admitted students
