Dreadful Dangers

• Cholera could kill you in twenty-four hours
• Crossing rivers were very dangerous and took a
  long time
• Fierce animals could not only harm livestock,
  but the travelers too
• Storms were dangerous because they made the
  trail wet
• Native Americans could attack at any time

Bam! Weapons

• The travelers had hunting knives for hunting
  and regular knives for cutting meat
• Pistols were used to hunt for small game and to
  defend themselves
• Scythes were used to cut grass because of its
  curved blade
• They used shotguns to hunt for mainly birds
• They used rifles to hunt for bigger game

Yum! Food

• The travelers filled almost all of their wagon
  with food
• They also had to bring food for their livestock
• Some of the food they brought was vinegar all
  the way to bacon
• They brought some dried food such as dried beans
  and fruit
• They had to bring something to drink so they
  brought coffee and tea

Amazing Animals

• Travelers brought animals to pull the wagon and
  sometimes they brought pets
• Oxen were used because they were strong but they
  were also slow
• Mules were used because they were fast but they
  also got tired easily
• Horses were used because they were fast but they
  ate a lot more
• Animals played a big part of the Oregon Trail
  because without them you couldnt bring anything
  that easily

Fun Toys

• For the climbing bear you pull two strings and
  it climbs
• Whimmydiddle, you rub two sticks together quickly
  and the propeller will spin
• Buzzsaw, for this you wind up the string then
  pull and release the ends to make the button spin
• Some of the traveling kids brought pets to play
  with
• Usually the kids would play with the toys on
  their free time
