We have been instructing users that to begin If
they previously created a profile in the UnCover
service, they needed to enter their profile
number and password into the
username and password fields on the ingenta
Welcome Screen.
Also If this is their first visit to the
CSU ingenta gateway, they must sign up and create
a profile by clicking sign up on the Welcome
Screen.
3Faculty and Grad Students who do not already have
a CARL/Uncover profile
- 1. must fill out our Document Delivery
Agreement form(print or online) before creating a
new ingenta account.2. They may sign up at the
University Library Reference Desk to acquire the
deposit account number and password (new account
passwords will be available to them starting
8/27), or complete the online ingenta Document
Delivery Agreement form.
4How users manage their account
When users initially sign up for their ingenta
account, after going through personal
registration and selecting their own User Id and
Password, and then clicking continue - they may
update your personal details from this section at
any time.
This is where they enter their FAX number, email,
and contact info
5CSUN Deposit Accounts Passwords are entered
CSUN deposit account s and passwords obtained
from library staff are entered in the Claim
Account section of the ingenta manage profile
section.
6Remember that account numbers and passwords are
available for lookup on the intranet under
Reference Instruction/ Accounts Passwords
(these will be updated for 8/27 password changes)
andin the notebook at the reference desk.

Searching ingenta- Quick Search or Search Options
(advanced searching) ingenta is designed for
both searching and browsing.

use Quick Search to locate articles in the
uncover plus database or online articles
database or click on the Search Options button

8 Merger of uncover with ingenta
databases
- ingenta is divided into two databases Uncover
Plus and Online Articles - you should try
searching both. - Uncover Plus - allows you to browse the table of
contents of the of more than 25,000 publications
with 11,000 titles that were not available in
CARL/Uncover There are now more than 11,000 new
titles for you to choose from. A list of the new
titles is available at http//www.ingenta.com/new_
to_uncover. - Online Articles - allows you to search and
locate articles available online from library
database subscriptions for immediate delivery to
your computer. If the university library has a
subscription to the journal via one of the online
article databases there will be no charge for
accessing the article online.
9Other searching notes
Truncation- You can use an asterisk () in order
to truncate a search expression. i.e., HISTOR
will find the words HISTORY, HISTORICAL, etc. To
search for publication title Search for Exact
title, keywords in title, or ISSN (do not use
hyphens or spaces) by clicking on the respective
button then click the Search button or Search
Since Last Update button.
10Search Results
Search results can be displayed in HTML for
printing or in ASCII for downloading to
disk. Electronic articles are those available in
PDF and HTML format, and can be delivered
immediately to a users desktop. Users may also
email their entire list by clicking the "email
entire list". If they click back and forth on the
uncover plus and online article tabs (shown
below) the search will be rerun accordingly.
11Holdings and blocking
- The red book icon next to the citation indicates
articles owned by our library. - users will be unable to request an item that
the University Library owns or has access to.
(problems are being reported) - Each article has the following options for users
- Mark- desired articles to create a list that you
can later print or place in your shopping cart. - Summary - View all citation information and the
article summary (abstract) if available. - Full text - View the full text of the article if
available. - Add to cart -Add to the shopping cart , which
displays prices and the delivery method.
12Eligibility
Who may use this service? All CSUN faculty
(full-time and part-time). All graduate
students in a degree program or a University
Certificate program. Note Graduate students
in a Certificate in Advanced Professional
Development program, Certificate of
Participation program and Open University are
NOT eligible.
13Limitations/ Restrictions
Articles from journals that CSUN owns may NOT
be ordered. Articles costing more than 40.00 may
NOT be ordered. Faculty may order an unlimited
number of articles, although we ask that the
faculty be judicious as charges add up quickly.
Graduate students may order up to 24 articles
per academic year (or 12 articles per semester).
Any orders over the limit of 24 will be billed to
the student.
