• Speaking Times for Todays Debate
• PM-5 minutes
• MO-5 minutes
• MC-5 minutes
• LO-7 minutes
• PMR-2 minutes
• The resolution BIRT Marijuana should be
  decriminalized

TRAINING PROGRAM- ROUND 1-

• Member of the Opposition (MO)
• In a prepared round, you will have more time, but
  in general, the MO has to think very quickly on
  their feet.
• The MO has to listen to the PM, come up with
  refutations to the PMs arguments and create
  their own arguments.
• The MO is the shotgun. They pick apart the
  governments case piece by piece and blow tiny
  little holes in that damage the integrity of the
  PMs points.
• They present valid reasons why side governments
  case is flawed, and why either a different
  solution or the current situation is fine.
• In general, about two minutes should be spent on
  constructive arguments, and five on refutation of
  side governments points.
• In a prepared round, the MO might have 2-3
  points, but in an impromptu round, one or two
  arguments is fine.
• A quick-thinking, impulse decision-maker who has
  a wide spectrum of basic knowledge is well suited
  to this role.

• Leader of the Opposition (LO)
• The LO is the cannon in a debate.
• The LO looks at the bigger themes behind the
  arguments presented by side government, and
  proves why they are inherently flawed or simply
  impractical.
• The LO is more capable of attacking broad-base
  assertions on which the government case lies,
  thus obliterating huge parts of their arguments.
• The last three minutes of the LO speech are
  keytreat it as the official rebuttal for side
  opposition.
• The LO needs to boil down the case to basic
  concepts and identify the areas of clash
• The government believes in capitalism at any
  cost we believe in protecting the helpless
  citizens of the Third World. They said, Should
  we allow the interests of the suffering peoples
  of the world get in our way? They said no we
  said yes.
• Criminalize the governmentmake it seem like what
  they are suggesting is not only offensive to you,
  but morally repugnant and genuinely unfeeling,
  not to mention stupid and impracticable.
• At the end of an excellent LO speech, even the
  government should be thinking that there is no
  way they can recover from the blows that have
  been dealt to their line of argumentation.
• A logical, extremely rational person with
  excellent analytical powers and the ability to
  see the big picture, as well as speak from a
  moralistic or humanitarian viewpoint, is best
  suited to this position.
