MEAP Time Again!
Zilwaukee International Studies School Advance
Band
On September 30, Zilwaukee Advanced Band played
for the opening of the bike trail. There were
many people there to listen to them and ride the
trail on their bikes. There were about forty
participants to help support opening the trail.
Everyone celebrated afterwards with cake, soda,
and drawings for prizes. The Band did an
excellent job playing their music. Thank you
advanced band and Mrs. Bruske for your
entertainment and support. By Addena Bowman and

Comp. Ed. Math News Zilwaukee International
Studies School has received 2 new math programs
for our compensatory math education students.
The first one is called FAST Math. It is an
individualized computer program to learn math
facts. The students who are using the program
are very enthusiastic about it and are improving
their knowledge of the facts. The other program
is Go Solve. It is also individualized. It
helps students correctly interpret and solve word
problems. We will begin using this program later
this year. The programs were funded by a grant
the District received.

SVSU International Students There were two
Chinese students who came to Mrs. Bohn's room.
They told us that the Great Wall of China would
take more than three days to walk across. Their
names were Gary and Jay. The top five game
systems in China are PS2, PS3, WII, DS, and PSP,
but the most popular on is the PSP. China is
shaped like a big rooster (they told us that).
The Chinese people were fun. by Ashely Waterman,

MONDAY MORNING CHARACTER EDUCATION ASSEMBLIES
Our theme of the month is RESPECT. On October
1st, we highlighted Self-Respect with a group of
nursing students from SVSU working in our
building every Monday. Students from Celeste
Thomass Hearing Impaired class made a special
presentation on their Egyptian dolls, and Grandma
Shirley talked about the international doll
collection she made and donated to our school.
Free SVSU football game tickets donated by Lake
Huron Credit Union for Appreciation Day were
given out to our Caught Being Good recipients.
The assemblies on Monday, October 8th, were
just as exciting. A student from Mr. Dekkers
class, Ally Bedore, talked about a special
project her class is working on to learn about
the state of Michigan. In emphasis of Respect
for Authority, the Kochville Township Fire
Inspector, Daniel Wiltse, was our honored guest
speaker. Mr. Wiltse spoke to both assemblies
about family fire safety plans for Fire
Prevention Week. Thank you, Mr. Wiltse! Your
contribution was greatly appreciated! Please
be sure to ask your Zilwaukee student(s) about
our Sign of the Week, as this has been a very
positive asset to our assemblies. We are so
proud and thankful to have the opportunity to
provide this special type of sharing/learning
exposure to our entire student body!

Dear Parents, The Youth Sports Program is for
Elementary and Middle School students attending
Saginaw Public Schools. Teams are formed at the
schools and coached by volunteers, usually
parents. Games are played on Saturdays. Each
sport has five weeks of regular season play. The
Youth Sports Program is designed to present
students with the opportunity to learn the
fundamentals and rules of the sport, improve
their skills and coordination, experience team
play while encouraging school spirit and pride,
and to master the basics of good sportsmanship.
Each child will be asked to pay a 10 player
fee. In order for the coaches to start practices
early to build the skills necessary before the
season begins, it is important to turn in the
appropriate paperwork a month before the season
begins. There is a player information card that
needs to be filled out and a 10 player fee for
every sport that your child is interested in
playing. Please turn this in a month in advance
to the office. You can access schedules, rules,
and other information about the sports program at

following sports offered by the community
education office and Zilwaukee School are as
