2Night Rise From where it has all night The
darkness comes From storm sewers and wells From
one-eyed caves From tunnels and the undersides of
stones From chimneys and pots From drawers and
boxes From sockets, pockets, safes Out of the
coldest cavities of oceans From the trunks of
sunken ships From pores of coral From the mouths
of fishes Out of our own dilating pupils From
knotholes, worm holes, root holes Out of cocoons
and pouches From the hollow cells of bees
3From subways, cellars, crevices From boots inside
the closet From the space between the
molecules From the space between the stars. By
Susan Astor
4Darkness comes from Darkness comes from The
heart of a killer on the run, waiting for the
next victim to come. The moon as it devours days
and turns to night while the world turns like an
uncontrollable merry-go-round. Darkness comes
from. An abandoned castles dungeon as it
consumes the soul of its last prisoner before
collapsing to a crumbly death. The sight of a
blind man walking down the street only using his
imagination to view the pretty gardens and houses
all around him.
5Darkness comes from.. A suicidal maniac who
lacks love and self-confidence in himself. The
concealed monster under your bed who creeps out
at night and devours all your unwanted
toys. Darkness comes from. The cave deep in
the forest swarming with the unwanted blood
sucking bats. The deep, dark ocean as the
pressure pushes in and you hear your bones crack.
6The Origins of Darkness Darkness comes from
sunken ships, deep thoughts, and listless
moments. Between that tangle of branches in my
backyard, and a star sliding from a nebula
darkness creeps. From worlds you and I will never
see or even from within yourself darkness
comes Darkness comes from that point of light
behind your fridge, deep depths, or caves of
intrigue. When the clock that just seems to slip
back, and that pile of homework that seems to
grow steadily, darkness slips into your mind
7Darkness finds its way into your window when
everyone else is asleep, and it slowly descends
from your wall and through the mist exactly
between that time when night and day collide. It
comes from the pile of trash in your room or from
the never-ending strand of string caught in your
little sisters hair. Darkness forms when you
walk that line between sanity and insanity or
even at that time when your childhood begins to
slip away.
8Red is Red is the stain of fresh, ripe
strawberries around a childs smiling lips. It is
the power that surges in the veins of a ruler,
bubbling with envy for others who have done
better. Or a tattered Valentine, the only
reminder of a lost loved one. Red is the screams
of an innocent dying a torturous death without a
friend to console him. And the dusty threads on a
baseball that know the agony of defeat and the
triumph of home runs. It is roses with drops of
dew shimmering like diamonds in the sunlight.
9Red is the flickering flame of candlelight that
guides in the darkness and heats in the cold. The
blood of a young soldier trickling out who has
given up his life to serve his country. And the
graceful beauty of a sunrise marking the new day
of hope and opportunity. Red is more than a
color, Its hope, love, fear, and hatred.
10Red Red is a sparkling ruby dangling from a
ladys neck where light dances and shimmers
gaily. It is the cruelty displayed when an evil
and greedy king starves and robs his own
people. It is the fire that consumes life and
memories, leaving only ashes behind. Red is the
patriotic stripes on the American flag
representing the blood shed by brave soldiers
pursuing their dreams and enriching the
future. It is hate that boils from the deepest
parts of the soul emerging occasionally in a
flare of fury. It is an overwhelming passion
that grows more intense over time.
11Red is the glow of the fiery furnace blast close
behind the gates of hell. It is the conquering
affection shared between two individuals when
experiencing the happiness of love. It is the
blazing inferno of gas that lights the clear
summer nights with flickering constellations.
12Blue Consumes forgotten memories, gone in the
wind like a kite without a string. Twirls in a
never ending storm so fierce and torrent Lingers
in the mountains of despair, with no way to
eliminate Sways in an ocean of feeling,
controlling every move you make Blue Nourishes
the body and mind of those seeking
help Celebrates the happy and joyful times of
love and passion Mourns the tragic loss and
suffering of a loved one Inspires the creativity
and imagination of the struggling artist
13 Blue Lies on you like a blanket of hope to
encourage you Lightens your heart when your
dreams are shattered by uncontrollable
forces Frightens away the demons that lie hidden
deep in your soul Vanishes into a moment of
emptiness and sorrow leaving you abandoned.
14Blue Blue swirls when youre playing in the
summer breeze with the kids at the park It
shivers down your spine when you gather around
the campfire telling ghost stories in the cold
night Blue plunges down your cheek when youre
feeling down It flies in the trees just like a
rocket ship lost in space Blue dives through the
shivering pool water at the Olympic games It
soars through the evening sky like an eagle
looking for its prey Blue sails through the seas
like a ship in a big rainy storm
15It flees into the ocean like a fish swimming
through the coral Blue charges through the trees
like a bullet trying to look for its target It
scatters across the endless ocean looking for any
bits of land nearby
16I am sadness that causes the tears that run down
your face. I am glass thats fragile and frail,
which shimmers into pieces if not kept still. I
am the rain that falls down from the sky, one by
one, while the old man snores. I am a crystal
that shimmers and shines, in caverns below, which
no one will find, I think. I am a bay, which is
cool and clean, where life is set still and has
its own special way to flow. I am not feelings
you try to hide, but ones you let go and let
people find. I am not the dark night sky, but the
crisp morning air, which wakes up the morning
glories and bright colored birds. I am a window
that lets the light through or someone watch out
for danger in the late night.
17I am the mirror on the wall, which watches your
life, telling the truth about you through and
through. I am clear, the tears and the rain, the
glass and the crystal, a bay and the truth, the
window and the morning air.
18I am I am the sun shining with bright cheerful
rays of light beating down on the earth to give
lots of heat and energy. I am the light bulb that
clicks on when I realize the answers on the
test. I am the first bright star at night in the
dark starry night. I am the color of the
superstar after winning the race. I am the color
of the suns heat that is a dying beating pain in
the summer. I am the color of the hot grains of
sand as they slipped through the trenches of my
fingers. I am the color that makes us tan in the
summers blazing heat on a hot sunny day on a
houseboat trip. I am the look of friendship when
two little girls cruise the beach holding hands.
19I am the color of a young girls little doll hair
that is golden blonde and her best friend that
she hugs and plays with. I am YELLOW!
