Famous Historical Pubs
  • ODonoghues small pub right off St. Stephens
    green, you are sure to hear live traditional
    music any night of the week the traditional
    group The Dubliners played here frequently when
    they first formed.
  • Stags Head busy and informal, renowned for its
    gorgeous stained glass windows
  • McDaids this pub was a favorite haunt of Irish
    writers such as Brendan Behan. Right across
    Grafton St. is the pub Davy Byrnes, made famous
    by James Joyce in Ulysses

Newgrange, Boyne Valley
  • Megalithic passage tomb in the built around 3200
    BC
  • The inner chamber is illuminated during the
    winter solstice
  • A world heritage site, it is within driving
    distance of the Hill of Tara where the ancient
    High Kings of Ireland were traditionally crowned

Rock of Cashel, Co. Tipperary
  • A 4th century fortification of political and
    religious significance both Brian Boru and St.
    Patrick worked from Cashel
  • There is a cultural village and guided tours
  • Bus Eireann has daily routes to and from Cashel
    approx. 2-3 hour drive

Dalkey Killiney
  • Easily reached by the DART in half an hour,
    Killiney has great views of Killiney Bay looking
    towards Dublin as well as many hiking trails and
    a beach
  • Bono, Van Morrison, and Enya have homes in
    Killiney
  • Dalkey village is a quaint place with a small
    heritage center in Goat Castle and some good pubs
    and shopping

Glendalough, Co. Wicklow
  • An old monastic village in the Wicklow Mountains,
    Glendalough is historically interesting as well
    as a great place to go hiking
  • There is a daily bus from the heart of Dublin
    that brings you there and takes you back approx.
    1 hour 30 min. journey

Trim Castle, Co. Meath
  • Approx. 1 hour away from Dublin by Bus Eireann
  • 12th century tower castle built by Hugh De Lacy
  • Its the castle where they filmed Braveheart!
    (look for the window where they defenestrated the
    princes boyfriend)
  • There are also the ruins of two ancient
    cathedrals and another, smaller castle within a
    mile of Trim Castle

  • All these places are great for anything ranging
    from snacks to full mealsthese are the favorite
    places of previous ND kids
  • Leo Burdocks legendary, the best fish and chips
    in Dublin!
  • Lemon amazing savory or sweet crepes right
    across from TCD
  • ONeills of Suffolk Street great pub grub, no
    more than 5.00 for soup and breadalso serves a
    great traditional full Irish breakfast
  • Butlers Hot Chocolate seriously, for chocolate
    lovers, this is heaven in a cup
