Climate change and global warming are the most
discussed debates, and energy crisis is one
formidable topics. It is essential to introduce
the practicality of this crisis through a simple
exercise the energy audit at school.
MATERIAL REQUIRED
Paper and pencil An electrical supervisor to
accompany the students is desirable
2On the day of commencement of the project on
ENERGY AUDIT, ask the students How does our
consumption of energy affect the environment, and
how can we cut down the amount of electricity we
use? Please record their answers in the
classroom and leave them on the black board or a
chart paper so that the children can see how
their knowledge and information changes by the
end of the project.

What are the different kinds of energy that could
be used? (Please give clues for solar, wind,
tidal, etc)What is the difference between
renewable and non-renewable energy?What impact
do the various kinds of energy have on the
environment when used? Why do we consume so much
electricity? How can you find out how much
energy you use? How can you reduce the amount
of electricity that you use? What are the costs
involved with reducing energy use? Why hasnt
it been reduced in the past?

5- Do the Audit for your school and complete the
Checklist below - Record number of light bulbs and their wattage
and how lights are controlled - Record the numbers of tube lights per fixture
- Do remember the lights on the corridors and how
often they are controlled - Record the number of fans and their wattage and
how fans are controlled - Record the number of computers. when are they
switched off and on? - Record the air conditioners, if any, on campus
and how they work - Record the number of water coolers for drinking
water, if any - The frequently used laboratory equipments
6Ask your electrical supervisor to assist you in
calculating the number of units consumed per
working day. Write a report analyzing how well
your school performs relating to awareness level
on global warming. Get back to the class and
compare to the knowledge they had before the
survey.
