Title: Exploding the Moment

1
Exploding the Moment
  • Lea Ann Atherton

2
Exploding the Moment
  • Draw a picture of your personal narrative (or
    short story) climax
  • Your picture cannot have any blank space left
    on the page
  • Think about the following things as you draw your
    picture

3
Where were you (or your main character)?
  • Main location (Six Flags, Neighbors house,
    Planet X)
  • The specific location (on ride, on trampoline, in
    cave)
  • Where you were in the main location (front car,
    on top, at the mouth)

4
What would we have seen around you (or the main
character)?
  • People
  • Nature
  • Buildings
  • Sky
  • Water
  • Etc.

5
What did you (or your main character) see?
  • Try to remember (imagine) the surroundings from
your point of view (back of the seat in front of
you, the tarp of the trampoline as you landed
face first, the darkness coming from the back of
    the cave)

6
What was happening at that time?
  • Your actions
  • Actions of other people
  • Actions of non-people (machines, animals, nature)
  • Think about how you can show it in your drawing

7
Who else was there?
  • What other people were with you (or your main
    character)?
  • What were they doing?
  • How did their actions/reactions affect you?

8
What did your face (or your main characters
face) look like?
  • Expressions that show your thoughts at that time

9
What were you (or your main character) thinking?
  • Use thought bubbles to indicate thoughts,
    feelings, impressions, etc.

10
What was said?
  • Use dialogue bubbles to show the conversation
between people at the time of the climax of your
    story.
  • In the case of a personal narrative, try to
remember what was said and recreate it as best
    you can

11
What did you (or your main character) hear?
  • Use dialogue bubbles to indicate sounds coming
from objects (crash!, whirring, people screaming,
    etc.)

12
Did you touch or feel anything?
  • Use thought bubbles to indicate emotional
    feelings (fear, love, anger, surprise)
  • Use dialogue bubbles to show sensory touch (hot,
    cold, rough, smooth)

13
Your Drawing
  • You might like to start with a word list of ideas
    for your drawing
  • You might like to start with a rough sketch of
    your drawing
  • Continue your work until you complete a full page
drawing of the climax of your story
  • You may use color to enhance your picture
