  • a supplement to LCSH published by Library and
    Archives Canada

  • CSH offers headings that have
  • more subdivisions relevant to Canadian topics
  • terminology more appropriate to Canada than
    LCSHs terminology
  • representation of topics that are uniquely
    Canadian
  • The most notable is the expansion of terms
    dealing with the Canadian Native groups

  • It covers in depth the areas of Canadian history,
    politics and literature, constitutional matters,
    the Canadian native peoples, the ethnic mosaic,
    bilingualism and multiculturalism

  • follows the same principles for the structuring
    of the headings and most of the same policies as
    LCSH
  • headings that are divergent from what would be
    permitted in LCSH are often based on some policy
    in LCSH adapted for CSH. For example, Italian
    Canadians is based on LCSH's Italian Americans
  • the term "Provincial" substituted where the user
    may find "State" in LCSH

    are not found in CSH
  • Native is used for works discussing Indians or
    First Nations, Inuit and Métis together. The term
    aboriginal is used occasionally.
