2QUARTERS SAFETY
3IN EVENT OF FIRE ALARM
- EVACUATE THE FACILITY UTILIZING THE NEAREST EXIT,
UNLESS IT IS BLOCKED BY FIRE. ALWAYS KNOW TWO
WAYS OUT. - REPORT TO YOUR DESIGNATED OUTSIDE MEETING PLACE.
- NEVER RE-ENTER THE STRUCTURE ONCE YOU HAVE
DEPARTED FOR ANY REASON.
4IN EVENT OF FIRE ALARM
- ONCE OUTSIDE THE STRUCTURE, VERIFY RECIEPT OF THE
ALARM BY CONTACTING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT VIA
CELL PHONE OR REMOTE TELEPHONE AT X 6666 OR
973-724-6666. - REMAIN CLEAR OF MEANS OF EGRESS AND FIRE
APPARATUS ACCESS POINTS. - ADVISE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS IF YOU
- OBSERVED ANY SIGNS OF FIRE PRIOR TO
- DEPARTING THE AREA.
5IN EVENT OF FIRE
- IF THE FIRE IS INCIPIENT, A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS
NEARBY AND YOU HAVE BEEN TRAINED, YOU MAY ATTEMPT
TO FIGHT THE FIRE. ALWAYS FIGHT THE FIRE WHILE
WORKING TOWARD AN EXIT. - IF POSSIBLE, CLOSE THE DOOR TO THE EFFECTED AREA
TO CONTAIN THE FIRE. - EVACUATE THE FACILITY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
- FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AS OUTLINED IN PREVIOUS
SLIDES.
6IN EVENT OF FIRE
- NOTIFY EMERGENCY RESPONDERS ON ARRIVAL THE
LOCATION OF THE FIRE AND IF ANYONE IS TRAPPED OR
MISSING. - REPORT TO YOUR PREDESIGNATED OUTSIDE MEETING
AREA. - GET OUT AND STAY OUT !
7SPEED
- S - Sound the Alarm. Activate the fire alarm
system within the facilities. -
- P - Phone the Fire Department. Telephone the fire
department and provide the following information
location of the fire, building number, name,
grade, and telephone number. Remain on the
telephone until told to hang up. - E - Evacuate. Alert and evacuate all personnel
from the building. Personnel should assemble at
the predesignated assembly point to be accounted
for.
8SPEED
- E - Extinguish. For small fires, if possible, use
available extinguishers or installed fire
suppression systems to control and extinguish the
fire. If there is any doubt about controlling the
fire or your safety, do not attempt to fight the
fire. - D - Direct the Fire Department. When the fire
department arrives, direct them to the fire.
9CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS
WHEN CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS SOUND, OCCUPANTS
SHOULD IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE THE DWELLING AND
CONTACT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FROM OUTSIDE THE
STRUCTURE VIA CELL PHONE OR HARD LINE TELEPHONE.
10KITCHEN FIRES
FOR STOVE TOP FIRES, CAREFULLY PLACE THE LID ON
TOP OF THE PAN TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A FIRE
EXTINGUISHER OR HOUSEHOLD BAKING SODA MAY ALSO BE
UTILIZED.
FOR OVEN FIRES, SHUT OFF THE OVEN AND KEEP THE
DOOR CLOSED. NOTIFY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
FOR SMALL APPLIANCE FIRES, UNPLUG THE UNIT IF
POSSIBLE AND NOTIFY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. A FIRE
EXTINGUISHER MAY ALSO BE UTILIZED.

A TYPICAL 10 POUND ABC FIRE EXTINGUISHER
13FIRE EXTINGUISHERLOCATION
AS A GENERAL RULE, THE EXTINGUISHER SHOULD BE
LOCATED SO IT IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE, AND
BETWEEN THE HAZARD AREA AND THE EXIT. THIS IS
NECESSARY TO PROVIDE YOU WITH AN ESCAPE
ROUTE. CONTACT AN INSPECTOR OR THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT A SITE SPECIFIC SURVEY FOR
YOUR LOCATION.

P PULL THE PIN A AIM AT THE BASE OF THE
FIRE S SQUEEZE THE HANDLE S SWEEP FROM SIDE
TO SIDE
15FIRE EXTINGUISHERINSPECTION
CHECK THE GUAGE TO VERIFY THE EXTINGISHER HAS A
CHARGE. THE GUAGE SHOULD BE IN THE GREEN.
CHECK TO SEE THAT THE SEAL IS STILL IN PLACE AND
THE PIN IS PRESENT.
16FIRE EXTINGUISHERINSPECTION
REMOVE THE EXTINGUISHER FROM THE BRACKET AND
SHAKE BY TURNING UPSIDE DOWN AND RIGHTSIDE UP
REPEATEDLY. THIS WILL INSURE THE AGENT INSIDE
DOES NOT DRY PACK.
DATE AND INITIAL THE MONTHLY EXTINGUISHER
INSPECTION TAG.
17USE OF CELL PHONES
WHEN UTILIZING CELL PHONES FOR EMERGENCIES,
REMEMBER THAT IF 9-1-1 IS DIALED, YOUR CALL WILL
BE ROUTED TO THE NEAREST 9-1-1 DISPATCH CENTER
(ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP OR THE NEW JERSEY STATE
POLICE, NOT PICATINNY). PROGRAM YOUR TELEPHONE
WITH THE PICATINNY POLICE DEPARTMENT EMERGENCY
TELEPHONE NUMBER TO AVOID DELAYS IN

18ACTIONS YOU SHOULDTAKE TO KEEP YOURFAMILY SAFE
PLAN AND CONDUCT FIRE DRILLS. HAVE A
PREDESIGNATED OUTSIDE MEETING PLACE. ALWAYS KNOW
TWO WAYS OUT OF YOUR SLEEPING AREA. PROVIDE
ADDITIONAL MEANS OF EGRESS (ESCAPE LADDER) AND
PRACTICE WITH IT IF NEEDED. OBTAIN TRAINING IN
BASIC FIRE EXTINGUISHER USE. PROGRAM YOUR CELL
PHONE WITH EMERGENCY NUMBERS.
19ACTIONS YOU SHOULDTAKE TO KEEP YOURFAMILY SAFE
DEVELOP A FAMILY COMMUNICATIONS PLAN. THE
PLAN SHOULD INCLUDE USE OF HARDLINE TELEPHONES
AND PROVIDE FOR PAYMENT OF USE( CALLING CARD,
PRE-PAID PHONE CARD OR COINS FOR PAY
PHONES). ESTABLISH AN OFF POST RALLY POINT AND
AN ALTERNATE MEETING POINT OUTSIDE OF THE
IMMEDIATE METROPOLITAN AREA. HAVE A GO PACK FOR
EACH FAMILY MEMBER WITH THREE DAYS OF
SUPPLIES. KNOW WHERE TO FIND NEWS AND OFFICIAL
INFORMATION.
