Academy of Progressive LearningMission Statement
  • We, the administration, faculty, and staff,
    commit ourselves to providing an exciting and
    nurturing school of academic excellence. The
    environment will be safe and inviting, with an
    emphasis on citizenship and community awareness.
    The atmosphere will be supportive and the
    curriculum will be challenging. Students will
    have a sense of belonging and of personal
    achievement. Students will be able to function
    with greatness in our multicultural society.

Our Beliefs and Purposes
  • 1. Each child is entitled to a proper education.
  • 2. All children have the ability to learn.
  • 3. Education is the key that opens the door of
    knowledge to higher learning.
  • 4. Uneducated students are the fault of the
    administration, staff, faculty, parents, and
    community.

    SELF-WORTH, and EXCEPTANCE of other cultures.
  • 6. Students should be allowed to express
    themselves and their personalities without

Purpose
  • 1. To provide a proper education for higher
    learning.
  • 2. To transition students from elementary school
    into middle school and through middle school into
    high school.
  • 3. To instill the importance of education and the
    power of knowledge.
  • 4. To provide an environment that is not only
    safe and encouraging , but also to provide
    teachers who exhibit love and understanding for
    their students at all times.
  • 5. To ensure the curriculum enables achievement
    in academics, diversity, and all that is valued
    as important.
  • 6. We will embrace and support the students
    DREAMS, GOALS, and AMBITIONS.

School Day Schedule
  • 800 Students arrival (car and bus riders)
  • 815 Breakfast
  • 830 Core classes begin
  • 1100 6th grade lunch begins (no open lunches)
  • 1130 7th grade lunch begins
  • 1200 8th grade lunch begins
  • 1230 9th grade lunch begins
  • (students are given free time after lunches are
    completed)
  • 130 lunches are over and classes resume as
    scheduled
  • 335 345 students prepare and depart from
    school
  • (after-school tutorial begins students must
    report to after-school activities by 400)

Student Disciplinary Order
  • The school is committed to maintaining effective
    discipline in order to establish a positive
    learning environment.
  • It shall be the duty of all teachers, including
    student teachers, substitute teachers, voluntary
    teachers, and teacher assistants, when given
    authority over some part of the school program by
    the principal or supervising teacher, to maintain
    good order and discipline in their respective
    schools (G.S. 115C-307). The principal shall
    have the authority to exercise discipline over
    the pupils of the school pursuant to policies
    adopted b y the local Board of Education as
    prescribed by G.S. 115-391 (G.S. 115-288).

Teachers will teach, inform, and encourage
students to display positive behavior at all
times. Students are responsible for their own
behavior, but we will be working together as a
team to ensure a cooperative and disciplined plan
of action.

Student Code of Conduct
  • Students should conduct themselves in a manner
    which is supportive of an effective learning
    environment.
  • Students will be respectful of personnel,
    humanity, and property.
  • Students and parents are encouraged to maintain
    communication with school administration.
  • All students will be treated equal and encouraged
    with preventive measures to make The Academy of
    Progressive Learning their school of choice.

Consequences for Non-Compliance

At The Progressive School of Learning we strive
to allow the students to feel a sense of
independence. The students have a choice in what
they want to learn. We will provide them with
an adequate number of classes that the students
may choose from. The course choices will satisfy
both the requirements of the state and the student

Health(must have one)
  • This course is designed to be half book and half
    physical fitness. During the book portion, the
    students will learn how to take care of their
    bodies and how their bodies work.
  • The students will also conduct physical
    activities including but not limited to softball,
    flag football, volleyball, running, pushups,
    basketball, kickball and swimming.
  • The students will also be required to take a
    Real Baby plus car seat home for 6 weeks. The
    baby behaves like a real newborn without the
    movement. The baby cries, and sleeps and uses
    the bathroom. The students are expected to care
    for the baby just as a parent would by feeding,
    changing, and comforting the baby.
  • During the year, sex education will be offered
    requiring parental signature. If a student is not
    permitted to take the sex-education portion of
    the class, he/she will participate in another
    Health class for the three week time frame.

V. J.R.O.T.C. (Jr. Recruiting Officer Training
Course)
  • Army
  • Air Force
  • This course is designed for students who want to
    seek either knowledge into the life of the Army
    or who want to seek a career in the Army. Course
    content includes, but is not limited to, the
    history of the Army, basic soldiering skills and
    commands, learning how to wear the uniform, and
    self-discipline. This course is taught by retired
    Soldiers.
  • This course is designed for students who want to
    seek either knowledge into the life of the Air
    Force or who want to seek a career in the Air
    Force. Course content includes, but is not
    limited to, the history of the Air Force, basic
    airman skills and commands, learning how to wear
    the uniform, and self-discipline. This course is
    taught by retired Airmen.
