MATERIALS REQUIRED
An aquarium tank / a water bottle / a fused
electric bulb Fresh water Any small live fish
from a nearby source

3Study the different fins and its shape in the
aquarium. Observe the operculum beat. This
indicates the fish is respiring. Count the number
of opercular beats in one minute. Then take a
straw and circle in the aquarium. The fish keeps
moving fast. You are exercising the fish. Now
count the number of opercular beats. Discuss your
results.
