Fundamental Program History
FIRST YEAR
YEAR ONE
  • Fundamental Program approved by School Board in
    December 2005
  • First high school fundamental program in the
    state. One of five fundamental high schools in
    the country.
  • 600 Number of original applicants to program in
    2006, though many were accepted to other schools
    / magnets and didnt attend Osceola.
  • 421 students Number enrolled when the school
    year began, though 16 students either didnt show
    or transferred within the first few days.
  • 405 students -- Actual first-year enrollment
    after 10-day count. Only 90 of those students
    came from fundamental middle schools.
  • 379 students Enrollment after the first
    semester. Only 56 of 405 original students
    appeared before the IAC committee for academic or
    behavioral concerns . 20 students were dismissed
    by the IAC.

  • 675 Number of Year Two applicants to program in
    2007, though many were accepted to other schools
    / magnets and didnt attend Osceola. 150
    additional applicants came via the late
    application process.
  • 450 students Enrollment for Year Two, though
    nearly 475 students were accepted as some drop
    off was expected.
  • 52 Number on Wait List for Year Two after the
    475 students were accepted.

Fundamental The Basics
  • Stronger Parent Involvement
  • Mandated Parent Meeting attendance each month at
    PTSA, SAC or Booster meetings.
  • Nightly expectations that parents are checking
    student homework and student planner.
  • Stronger Teacher Communication
  • Online grades that are updated at least once a
    week by all teachers.
  • All teachers available as needed via email. Many
    teachers also have class websites.
  • Stricter Dress Code / Discipline Requirements
  • No student may get more than one referral in a
    grading period.
  • Any serious discipline matters can lead to
    immediate dismissal from the school.
  • Dress code No shorts or flip flops allowed. No
    inappropriate clothing of any kind.
  • Higher Expectations for Homework
  • Homework each night in all academic courses
  • (English, math, science, social studies, and
    world languages)
  • System of Demerits / Agenda Books
  • Notification to parents of any missed HW
    assignments 2 demerits for no HW
