Planning Strategies
  • Come to the Tiger Information Extravaganza
    February 18 at 600 p.m.
  • Ask advice from teachers, parents, counselors,
    friends, etc.
  • Start thinking seriously about a career choice.
    Use the Kuder system to help you.
  • Make your 4 year plan according to your career
    program of study.

NEW TERMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL
  • Credit
  • All high school courses are tied to credit.
  • You can earn 7 credits in one school year.
  • Semester System
  • Grades and credits are earned at each semester.
  • Grades are not averaged between semesters for
    final grade.
  • Classification
  • You are classified as 9, 10, 11, 12th grade
    according to the credits you earn.

  • 6 10.5 credits 10th grade (Sophomore)
  • 11-16.5 credits 11th grade (Junior)
  • 17 credits 12th grade (Senior)
  • 26 credits Required to GRADUATE!
  • Classification is based on credits earned prior
    to the school year.

New terms for high school continued
  • GPA Grade Point Average
  • Points are assigned to semester averages based on
    difficulty of coursework (Regular, Advanced,
    Pre-AP, AP, Dual Credit, etc.)
  • Class Rank
  • After all grades are averaged for all students,
    students are ranked from the student with the
    highest GPA to the lowest GPA.
  • The class rank in Klein ISD is not given out
    until the beginning of the senior year.
  • Transcript
  • The transcript is the official document of all
    your grades and credits earned in high school.

  • Recommended Plan

  • Distinguished Achievement Plan (DAP) 3 Years

  • 4 Advanced Measures
  • Note IPC does not count as 1 of the 4 sciences
    needed to graduate under this plan.

Advanced Measures for DAP Plan
  • A score of 3 or above on AP exam
  • Exams given to test out of the college course
  • Scored on a 1-5 (5 being highest score)
  • A score of 4 or above on IB exam (Klein Oak)
  • A PSAT score that qualifies as a Commended
    Scholar or higher by National Merit (11th grade)
  • College course grade of 3.0 or higher or a B in a
    tech-prep articulated course
  • Original Independent Research Project under
    guidance of teacher

TEXAS SCHOLARS
  • Graduate with the recommended graduation plan
  • At least two college courses eligible for college
    credit
  • Dual Credit
  • Articulated credit
  • Advanced Placement,
  • International Baccalaureate credit.
  • The national examination for advanced placement
    credit is a requirement with the course
    enrollment.
  • Score of 2200 on the Texas Assessment of
    Knowledge and Skills exit level test for reading
    and mathematics.

Tips on High School Success
  • Get involved with activities.
  • Do service work (volunteer).
  • Student Council, Key Club, etc.
  • Make time to study every night.
  • Read Chapters, Notes, Reviews Before the Exams
  • Ask for help before it is too late!
  • Attend tutoring.
  • Departmental, NHS, Teacher, Private
  • Dont over or under commit yourself.
  • Strive for balance
