Bens Boyhood
  • Ben was born on
  • Jan.17,1706, in a
  • small cottage on Milk
  • Street.
  • His parents were
  • Abiah and Josiah
  • Franklin, and he had 16 siblings.
  • When he was young, he wanted to be a sailor.
  • He worked for his brother in a printing shop.
    Later on he started writing to his brother
    calling himself Silence Dogood so his brother
    wouldnt get mad. Later he ran away to
    Philadelphia
  • and formed his own print shop.

Bens Early Adulthood
  • Seven years after he moved to Philadelphia, Ben
    married Deborah Read, helped organize Americas
    first library, and wrote the first Poor Richards
    Almanac all in 3 years!
  • Four years later, he helped form a volunteer fire
    team and proved that lighting was a form of
    energy.

Bens later Adulthood
  • In 1766,he helped convince the Parliament to
    cancel the Stamp Act.
  • The next year he helped Jefferson write the
    Declaration of Independence and the
    Constitution.
  • Through all of his life he was Writer, Scientist,
    inventor and diplomat
  • Ben lived to be 84 years old, and he died on
    April 17, 1790.

  • Renowned for his enterprising nature, his hard
    working attitude and his skills for both writing
    and negotiation, Franklin had a strong sense of
    how things should be and gained the cooperation
    of others by honoring them with the credit that
    they were due. Bens name and reputation will
    live forever not only in his history books, but
    in his inventions, discoveries, improvements and
    methods he had devised during his eighty- four
    year stay in the fields of politics, science and

  • 1706- Ben was born in Boston Massachusetts, on
    Jan. 17, 1706.
  • 1716- Began working in his fathers candle shop.
  • 1718- Became an apprentice for his brother James,
    a printer.
  • 1723- Ran away to Philadelphia and began working
    as a printer.
  • 1730- Married Deborah Read
  • 1731- Helped organize Americas first library
  • 1732- Wrote the first Poor Richards Almanac.
  • 1736- Helped form a volunteer fire fighting team.
  • 1740- Helped start a school that became
    University of Pennsylvania, invented the Franklin
    stove
  • 1752- Proved lightning was a form of electrical
    energy
