3Plan Background
FEMA mandated that Hazard Mitigation Plans be
prepared to insure disaster relief funding.
In 2000 the City prepared a Hazard Mitigation
Plan to assist victims of Hurricane Floyd.
It was adopted by the Council and approved by the
State.
4Plan Results
20.8M in Federal/State funds helped buyout 353
residential units, relocate families, create
new housing developments
- However, impact was greater
- Over 966 damaged structures
- 764 flooded structures
- Major impact on public facilities
