switch on the back of machine.
Expiratory Limb
Inspiratory Limb
9After turning power ON
- Power source LED illuminates (if not plugged in
will run off internal battery) - Performs POST
- Begins operation with last used settings.
- A Flow Cal Alert is displayed in monitor window
as reminder to perform manual FC - Press MONITOR SELECT to clear display. Vent then
displays the current Apnea Interval settings. - Pressing MS again displays current Bias Flow
10Vent Performance Check akaUser Verification Tests
- Do before connecting to patient
- Press and hold down MONITOR SELECT button as turn
the ventilator ON. Keep holding down Select until
UVT ON appears (So if vent on already, turn off
and back on). - When you see UVT ON message and hear audible
alarm ? Silence alarm - Press MONITOR SELECT button again - see message
REMOVE PT
11- Press MONITOR SELECT again to display tests
- 5 tests appear in order as the CONTROL KNOB is

exit. - Alarm test - Press MONITOR SELECT to start test.
The audible alarm sounds. Press MONITOR SELECT
again to silence alarm. exit test, and advance to
next test. - Lamp test checks the LEDs
12- Switch test check function of control panel.
Pressing MS button should make SELECT appear in
window. Press any front panel control and the
name of the control should appear in the window. - Filter test checks the turbine inlet filter.
Activating this tests accelerates flow to 140 LPM
and measures the pressure drop across filter.
The message FILTER 4.5 P indicates the pressure
and a P that the filter passed.
13Leak Test
- Most important test.
- Can select it first by scrolling through with
control knob. - Before starting test block Pt wye.
- Press MONITOR SELECT to start test
- Vent holds a pressure of 60 cmH2O twice.
- If the difference between the two tests is cmH2O, the test passes.
- Press MS to exit test and advance to EXIT out of
special function section.
14After leak test
- Set Apnea Interval using Special Functions
- Set Bias Flow using Special Functions
- To access Special Functions - Press and Hold
Control Knob until VENT SETUP appears in the
monitor window. - Accessing Special Functions does not interfere
with ventilation.
15Special Functions
- There are 7 chapters under Special Functions
- Vent Setup Group, Alarm Setup Group, Transducer
Data, Transducer Test, Event Codes, User
Verificiation Tests, Service Verification Tests. - Vent Setup includes Bias Flow, and Control Lock.
- Alarm Setup includes apnea interval
16Next after checking Bias Flow and Apnea Interval
- Set Over Pressure Relief valve - located lower
right section of vent. - Set High Pressure Alarm to 120 cmH2O
- Create high pressure in circuit (block pt wye)
- Adjust relief valve to the backup setting ( 10
above high pressure alarm) - Set mode
- Check volume of audible alarm (back panel)

18MODES
- Assist-Control in VC, PC and VAPS
- SIMV in VC, PC and VAPS
- Pressure Support
- Volume Assured Pressure Support (VAPS)
- CPAP
19To set a mode press desired mode button (LED
light flashes) press again within 5 seconds to
activate mode, otherwise the mode remains
unchanged.
Mode Select Buttons
20To set pressure control mode 1. Select A/C mode
2. Then push PC pad 3. Dial desired pressure. To
switch back to VC, turn Pressure Control
pressure level to OFF.
21To add Pressure support 1. Select appropriate
mode (SIMV or CPAP) 2. Push PS pad 3. Dial in PS
setting

22To set Volume Assured Pressure Support, Select
A/C or SIMV mode, set VT, Peak Flow and Pressure
Control level and push VAP button
23VAPS for machine breaths only
- Will give a pressure breath that is flow cycled
as long as inspiratory flow does not fall to Peak
Flow setting before target tidal volume
delivered. - If flow falls to Peak Flow setting before target
volume delivered, ventilator transitions to VC
mode and delivers flow at the set peak flow until
target tidal volume delivered.
24VAPS
Flow falls to set Peak Flow before target volume
delivered, switches to VC

28ALARMS
29The main alarms to set on the TBird are
- Apnea Alarm (10-60 seconds)
- Alarm Silence (lasts 1 minute)
- High pressure limit
- Low peak pressure
- Low minute volume
- High respiratory rate
30To set alarms 1. Push the button for desired
alarm 2. Turn the control knob to change the
setting.
31WAVEFORMS
32The TBird has a optional Graphic monitor
interface for viewing wave forms.
33Special Functions
- These are accessed by pressing the control knob
for 2 seconds. - Clinical parameters found here include adjustment
of bias flow apnea period alarm. - Bias flow can be adjusted from 10 20 LPM.
- Press control knob again to Exit.
34Other Functions
Insp hold press and hold button before start of
inspiration. Set pause time by pressing button
and turning control knob.
35Battery
- The battery lasts approximately for 1 Hour.

silence. Flashing Vent Inop indicator continues
to flash for several minutes (does not effect
battery).
