What is an iPad?
  • The iPad is the first tablet computer from Apple
and features a 9.7-inch touchscreen display and
built-in Wi-fi. Introduced in 2010, the iPad is
a revolutionary way to experience the Internet,
emails, photo and video. Its main advantage is
the ability to download thousands of applications
or Apps from the iTunes library and other
    sources.

Imagine being able to take a virtual field trip
like this...
Arches National Park Geology Tour HD provides an
illustrated and narrated introduction to the
geology of Arches National Park for the iPad.
Depending on the lesson users can use the
Geology, Tour or Map view. The app (downloaded
from iTunes) makes full use of pinching, zooming,
swiping, and orientation flipping. Swipe or use
the arrow buttons to advance through the geology
topics and tour photos. Narration is available
with standard play buttons on the toolbar.

Interactive Toolkit
  • With the iPad, students have all of the resources
they need at their fingertips. Its truly an
interactive toolkit that contains a built-in
dictionary, atlas, maps, photos and more.

5
iBooks
  • iBooks is a free app that allows students and
teachers to download and read books at the touch
of a finger. Teachers can also store and read
PDFs for class handouts, research papers and
    more.
  • Could textbooks be a thing of the past?

6
Webquests
  • The iPad is a perfect tool for webquests at their
fingertips. For a lesson on persuasive writing
students can perform a webquest to search for
examples of persuasive writing and types of
persuasive speech, as just one example.

7
Podcasts
  • Podcasts are a fantastic way students can
interact more personally with the material,
reviewing it more than once, moving to specific
sections, without the whole class having to watch
the film multiple times. Great personalization of
    learning!

8
Apps, Apps and more Apps
  • Apps are at the heart of the functionality of
the iPad and this video demonstrating Star Walk
is a perfect example of the capabilities. Star
Walk is the 1 rated educational app from iTunes,
and youll be able to see why once you click on
the video. The app automatically recognizes your
exact location but also where the iPad is in
relation to the night sky. It also uses the
complete features of the iPad touchscreen
location detection, compass and accelerometers to
give you an experience like no other. Why would
students need a trip to the Plantarium when this
provides a much more personal experience that can
be modified to many lessons in science,
astronomy, history and even Greek mythology?

9
iWork
  • iWork is another app from Apple that is an easy
way to create documents, spreadsheets and
presentations on the iPad. Within iWork is
Pages, an easy-to-use Word Processor, while
Keynote allows students to add animation and
effects and Numbers which helps create attractive
spreadsheets and charts within a presentation.

    comes with these built-in features
