2 What is a SMART Board?
A SMART board (commonly known as an Interactive
Whiteboard) is a large interactive display that
connects to a computer projector.
The projector projects the computers desktop
onto the boards surface where users control the
computer using a pen, finger, or other device.
The board is typically mounted to a wall or a
floor stand.

BEGINNING USER
A beginning user uses the SMART Board in a very
basic way Displays overhead projector on SMART
Board
- Uses dry-erase markers for annotations
- Teacher is primary user of the SMART board
- Struggles with features, unsure of basic tools in
Notebook - Displays seatwork/bellwork directions then turns
off for rest of morning/period - Projector primarily used for showing videos,
United Streaming.

An adaptive user uses the SMART Board for
teaching manipulating
- Uses stylus markers for notes and examples in
Notebook - Notebook content (galleries) used on a regular
basis - Notebook is used on an hourly basis

guides, worksheets or other scanned materials

interactive whiteboard. Today, more than 1.7
million SMART Board interactive whiteboards are

offices in Washington, DC, New York, NY, and
